Does anyone here own a Gulfstar trawler?

They're really cool (no pun) units so I see why Bill would like to repair and run them. He's got 2 in good locations. If parts aren't available then I'd do a mix of your advice and put new RC units inside these enclosures. They really go with the boat cosmetically. They certainly look better than the house-hold units the previous owners installed. And Bill might actually want some natural light coming from the aft-cabin windows where the household units are!

Believe it or not.
RDF's are still sold but extremely expensive.
I do have a Henrey Radio Classic 2K HF tube amp does that qualify Bruce?

Tube amps are cool. NOTHING sounds better than analog in my PROFESSIONAL opinion! Somebody finally started making 2" wide reel-to-reel tape again for the 24-track at my office. The problem is it's about $300/reel and that's only 17 minutes of recording time!
I will be off to Little Egg tomorrow to visit Wireless One to get her ready for launch. I will be picking up my West Marine rolling storefront from the smaller stateroom.
This will probably relieve the boat of a few hundred pounds between wire, lugs, high current battery switches and LED fixtures.
Get ready anyone interested in this boat. I have decided to leave the KVH M3 TracVision in it and install a new KVH M1 TracVision on the trawler.
The Henry Radio amplifier covers from 2MHz to 30MHz and will output a cool 1.5kw with the key down. It talks to every electronic device in the neighborhood. That's a negative a big negative....

Well perhaps good news a Westerbeke certified mechanic will be working on the generator tomorrow. The freshwater system and hot water heater are now fully commissioned and working. Myself and the current owners expect to close no latter than Saturday. My shop is full of many components, systems and improvement parts. I may need to rent a Ryder truck I have so many components and systems to deliver to the marina and to start installing on the vessel after I close. I'm leaving the KVH M3 and the PuraSan in Wireless One I bought a nice 1 year old KVH M3 on Direct 101 and a new model PuraSan.
I need to go to W1 tomorrow morning to get it ready for launch this weekend and remove my parts warehouse.
I wanted to go today but work at the office must come 1st.
I feel like it's almost Christmas Eve and I'm 10 years old, am I impatient? That's an understatement.....

I wasn't this excited when I bought my 1st larger boat my Mainship 40SB. I joined the board a few months too late. I probably would have done things way different. It's not that W1 isn't a unique boat I just had no practical knowledge and it cost me $$$'s that I might not have spent had I listened.
I have had great input on the Gulfstar and I have learned to listen and think B4 dishing out the &&& BOAT bucks.
I will post the Westerbeke mechanics results once I know what if anything is accomplished today.
I'm going to start an on line blog detailing everything and I'll load it with pictures.
What have I learned so far? All Gulfstars were not created equally.
I have learned a lot about diesels and how to run them.
I've learned it's far easier to start with a fresh piece of canvas even if it's almost 40 years old.
My total budget for this project is $50k which includes the cost of the Gulfstar.
I pretty much received most of the equipment that's going into Wireless Too with the exception of the MFD's and some NMEA2000 components.
I'm seriously looking at the new 840xs MFD's for the upper and lower helm with the scan view option.
I will be doing 90% of the labor.

Good that makes 4 of us including me that aren't Blog crazy! I'll keep it all here. My Mainship was visited today. I must have removed 500 pounds of 4/0, 2/0, 1/0 and #1 & 2 wire, 20 plus feet of new SeaLand sanitation hose, AC Main breakers panel, ACR's from 60 to 250 amps, the ACR bypass switch, BlueSea high current fuse holders, fuses and ground buss bars for heavy gauge wiring, a hundred feet of #12 DC red/ yellow, stailess hardware, antenna pipe mounts, a CruiseAir electric add on 110VAC heater, a MarineAir static electricity air scrubber, AC vents and hose, solar controllers. I really lightened up the boat by 500 lbs no joke. The marina believes they can launch her by this weekend.
I also picked up 20-30 LED assemblies, stainless marine grade hose clamps of all sizes, Y valves, through hulls. I grabbed an EPIRB and it's mount so I can register it to the Gulfstar soon.
What treasure trove!
