Does anyone here own a Gulfstar trawler?

Another year or two, Pascal, or so we hope. This boat is built like a tank. Only two owners before Bill bought it (so I'm the fourth). The plan right now is to launch this boat in another month or two, put her next to our power cat to transfer all our "stuff" and then put the cat on her trailer for a while in storage. We'll see what happens after that (we have to adjust from 18 knots to 8 knots - but much more "living" room!).

Looking good Kurt, I am sure you folks are going to enjoy this more than the cat. While the cat got you around to a number of places once retired the horizon grows quite a bit with the extra time.

Progress continues:

New aft windows:

New windlass and anchor pulpit (the original was mahogany and totally rotted out):

The old windlass was MANUAL! This one is 12v so we had to add all the wiring. This will all be boxed in shortly in teak:

Very Cool thanks for the update what is the ETA for completion?

Completion? That is the $64,000 question, isn't it? :-)

No hurry here as this is the long-term cruising boat and we're still boating in our power cat (no plans to get rid of the cat). There's still flooring to do, wind turbine to install, water maker to install, a number of projects. I don't really want two boats in the water at the same time so I want this one "cruise-ready" before we launch her.

I'll try to post more as progress continues. FYI: I was motivated to post this as Bill ("BillyIII") e-mailed me today asking for an update. We keep in touch.

That's what I want to know, too. We used to email, but I haven't heard from him in a couple years. If you make contact, please tell him j-d asked, and tell him my email hasn't changed from what he had.

You are doing very neat work. That boat will be better than new when you are done.
Will you have covers for those electrical buss bars?

I will ask Bill to check this topic.

Bruce, that was an in-progress picture. That is now ABYC and about to be boxed in.

To be honest, that is not my work. I was fortunate enough to find an ABYC contractor (via my hvac guy) who turned out to be a skilled jack of all marine trades (electrical, electronics, fiberglass, diesel, etc.) The woodwork is all being done by a relative of mine who is quite skilled at it. I'm limited to waxing, external teak maintenance, and "go-for" guy :-)

New custom teak microwave oven shelf (thankfully there's a cabinet maker in the family!):

We installed a second 30-amp shore-power inlet. This is a secondary panel that it connects to as well as some 12v systems:

Original 12v bilge pumps replaced and we added these back-up manual pumps. There used to be a hole for a 1980's 6x9" "Jenson Triaxle" speaker here so we took advantage of having to repair the teak anyway:

Flooring is going in next.

Congratulations, that's awesome! Let's see some photos of the interior...

Enjoy!
