For anyone who's built their own boat....

Now that there HAS to be an accomplishment! How many layers go inside now?

It'll get three layers on the inside, same weight fabrics as the outside. I might short circuit that by using the heavier 33 oz fabric I used on the bottom panels. It'll save some time & effort. Won't have to worry about looks on the inside as much as I did on the outside. Thanks for looking in boatbum.

Ok, spent the last few hours reading this topic with absolute fascination! Absolutely amazing to watch this build from no shed, no shelves, and a pile of plywood to where you are now! Can't wait for the next update, and thank you so much for sharing this experience with us.

I'm truly sorry for your loss Ed. You'll never get those few hours of your life back! :-) Thanks for looking in though. I appreciate the comments. I've done the same thing actually. I don't remember doing half that stuff. It almost seems surreal at times.

Published another of my mind numbing 'How Not To Build A Boat' videos and a few other musings on our Web Log today: del/2013/09/video-processed-and-ready-to-go.html

Sketching templates for main cabin windows so I can get a quote on prices from a number of different suppliers.

Always happy to have a look at others. Post some links if you can.

I don't think the windows are standard sizes. They were already cut in the panels.

I made a mess of things but I'm pretty sure I can fix it. Messy fun! Web Log Updated: del/2013/09/im-absolutely-sure.html

After much searching, I used Wynne windows as a replacement window for my Prairie Trawler. Cannot say enough about them, they were super easy to work with, got the product early and did an outstanding job. Could not be happier. By the way, they were also low bidder. They were recommended to me by a local builder which was what tipped me. Nothing but praise for their work. Windows have been in place for three years and are as tight as the day they were installed.

Thanks for the endorsement John. I saw them on another boat similar to mine. They looked really good. A buddy has them on is Piver Trimaran and loves them as well.

Dammit work gets in the way of having fun building a boat! :-(

The Marine Installers Rant & other misc. ramblings from the boat shed (inc. another home movie) posted to our web log:

Looks like my second career in the Coast Guard has come to an end. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. So today it was back to the boat shed! Wohoo! Boy did it feel good to get back to work on the boat!

More Sandinsanity tomorrow. Standby....

Had to change things up a bit and drill a hole in my hull. No, not for kicks, for the rudder post.

This rudder came with the kit when we bought it. I don't know if it was actually made for this boat so I had to stick it up there and get some measurements. The rudder shaft will have to be modified a bit. Work I hope to get done this winter.

Calling it quits for the season folks. Too cold to do any fairing. Tried to sum things up on our latest blog entry: del/2013/11/thats-wrap.html

When you make the Cuts for the Windows, aint them things called Port's, you save the Cutouts to make Seat bottoms and Table tops, shelves etc.

How thick are the Cutouts gonna be. 1" or more?

These were the bigger 'winders' in the main cabin Thud. Not the lil' dinky ports! :-) All were only 1/4" ply and were already cut by the CnC machine. I still have 6 extra sheets of 1/2" for all the furnishings that'll need to be made.
