People also pay to host content in places that provide a service, ease of posting and storage space. The cost of an anchor here provides no technical service, besides access to a private section to a forum. Then you want people to duplicate thier effort and put their content in here instead of a link, where it provides little service to do so, or the service is ancient in terms of web services. The cost of these services people want to link to, rarely make money enough to cover the cost of that service through ads. For example, I'm sure Rick's blogger ads do not make him enough to cover the photobucket account he pays for to host images to post here.
IMO the "laws" here need to change. Instead of trying to hog content to this site, it needs to open up, or be lost in the internet of 10-15 years ago. Ads are here, deal with it.
