Get Boat off Long Island to Be Shipped

In a boat you had faith in and were comfortable with.

Well, if you are in Florida, unlike us, you don't have to wait until May to enjoy her, I get it!

I suggest calling the hauling firms mentioned here, they will give you the facts regarding the permit issues. I would then call some yards in New Jersey asking for transport recommendations. I believe HOGAN did the reverse trip once or twice, maybe he can chime in.

I don't know why people recommend Brick, NJ, for that you have to go through the Mannesquan Inlet and Point Pleasant Canal. Another option is around Atlantic Highlands but its a long stretch from the Battery to there in somewhat open water. I think Liberty Landing, while expensive, might be your best bet location wise in NJ.

Having said all of that, perhaps being hauled from the area in Long Island and dealing with the special permits is just as expensive and much less stressful. Again, call the pros, they would know what to do.
If you need someone local to ride shotgun depending on timing i maybe able to help - we would just need to work out how the hell I get back?
I have both Seatow & TowboatUS if needed- hope not

This must have been a terrific deal to go to all of this to get it to FL.

Run it hard for an hour during the survey. Then run it hard the following day or so afterwards. Then bring it home.

Liberty Landing’s web site says $25 / foot to haul, wash and load onto a trailer ( over 25ft). Not sure how much you will save going to Highlands, Navesink, Oceanport, or further south. Don’t know why you were told to run all the way down to Brick, that doesn’t make much sense. Even if you make the offshore run, dozens of places to haul out in Manasquan. & Brielle, that would save you the time and hassle of the canal.

you have to assume that if the boat runs well in the sea trial, it’s going to be fine doing the 40 miles to Liberty Landing. Even if one motor conks out on you half way, you should still be able to get there. Then again, it’s a boat. With how much you are spending, can the permits to get it off Long Island be THAT expensive that it’s worth the hassle?

i once had a boat that I was desparate to sell. It was in atlantic city. The buyer said he would only take it if I delivered it to his marina on the Maurice river - off the DE bay. Market was a bit different back then, so as soon as he signed the contract and gave me the deposit, I hired a captain. I believe Pacemaker Tom, if you remember him, was on the trip assisting the guy I hired to run the boat for me. Any chance you can pressure the seller to get her to Jersey City for you?

They told him Brick because it's another MM location. Get the boat there then UBER or car service back to Huntington.

Alk makes sense.... my buddy was selling a boat from the Hudson River, but the woman who was buying it was from Milford, CT. The agreement was (after sea trial) get the boat to the LI Sound and she took over....which she did. We left at about 8am by the time we got to a point she was comfortable, the cooler had ICE COLD beers....he actually also worked into the agreement that she would buy dinner for us at her marina. Before you get fresh, her dad was on the ride and being a small world, my widowed aunt was spending time with the dad.

Just yesterday I offered to help another friend deliver his boat to Larchmont, NY...its an adventure

Sorry, I know I'm reminiscing,,,,, good luck with YOUR situation.

Maybe MM should get it to their Brick location as part of the deal?

Actually it is the transport firm who suggested Brick.

As i said in my opening post, I'm concerned about this boat sitting

Will press broker to have owner replace impellers, fuel filters and have fuel tanks polished

I will not get to see this boat until 10/20

Boatered member & Marine Surveyor AL PRISCO is doing the survey on 10/21

She's on the hard right now.

It would be WONDERFUL if a Boatered member in the area would go do an in-person look-see .......

Im in Huntington multiple times a week so seeing it is a non issue. let me know when you would like it done and i'll stop by and take pic's etc- Having Al doing the survey should give a good level of security

I sold my 45c Silverton to a doctor in 2019, he is relocating to FL and taking the boat with him (piloting his boat down there ) . I emailed him to see if you guys could connect and do it together. Would you be into that? He tells me all is scheduled for the end of October. I Believe his boat is also in the Huntington area.

If this was MY 10 METER..... I'd do it in a minute

However even after passing the hull survey, the vessel under contract is an unknown commodity, how many years since the coolers were serviced,,,,, etc.

Now

if it was April or May..... this could be an adventure.

Load up a bunch of spares and do some preliminary service and maintenance

But...

The days are getting shorter... AND COLDER !

Less to tempt the fates this way.

well, your post got me to run the numbers.....

I figured 1,200 miles

$4,800 for fuel just under 1nmpg @ $4/gal

100 nm avg per day

19 kts = 5.2 hrs/day

figure 14 nights in a marina @ $125/night = $1,750

Total cost = $6,550

not including repairs/ maintenance and SURPRISES

The difference is $3,850 + surprises

I'd bet with a 25 year old boat there would be more than $3,850 in surprises

Thoughts?

I can't comment on your numbers because I have no idea. There is an RO here, Pascal, that has done this trip many times before. I get your thoughts and get your thought process, you are on the right track with what you are asking.

I remember enjoying that long video he shared with the GO PRO camera many MANY years ago...
