Get-Together 2010((CANCELED))

"Are we bringing the women you ask...Of course we are..bring as many as you want..."

Wayne - is it true that you've got Tiger Woods working on that?

Yes Ray, I went Hogan for this posting...Hogan has always been my hero and I wanted to be just like him..I don't like it, so I'm going back to blue...

I asked Tiger to hook us up with a dozen, but he can only come up with 11...I told him we wanted 12 or nothing..I think he'll come through for us...He seems to always have a few extras that he forgets about...

Ray:
How many more sleeps until "Splash Day"...
Lets get something going and confirmed on a date and place for the get-together so people can make plans...

I'm good for any place and any weekend...
Lets here some suggestions...

Happy New Year Wayne

Dana recomended the TI Club. www.horizonmarina.com (need to boat shuttle to Alex bay)

There is also the Edgewood across the bay from Alex Bay. It is about a mile walk into the Bay.
www.theedgewoodresort.com

Clayton is a possibility but I would need to talk to the Mayor because it is normally 1st come 1st serve.
Last year when we met in Gan there was room in Clayton. I could get everyone in my marina but we would
be all over the place.

I'm good with any of those spots...The Admiral is voting for Alex Bay...Does she get a vote in this???...If I want to go she does...Looks like Alex bay from us...

Time of Year
Looks like Gary will be cruising the first 10 days in Aug...What days in Aug are you good for Gary?...

Is August OK for everyone? or anyone else have a suggested time frame for this?...

If end of July thru middle/end of August, my vote would be Alex Bay. June thru middle of July, my vote would be Sackets Harbor.

They all sound good to me. There is also the Riveredge in the Bay. I know they were taken over last year.

Gary, was it you that knew the new owners and they are from the Toronto area?

Ray

Has anyone looked into or had experiences with staying at places like the Edgewood or Riveredge? Last I knew they were pretty pricey for dockage.

Seeing as how I won't be able to get from the NYS Barge Canal System into Lake Ontario I guess I'll have to rethink my original vague idea for this summers' cruise. I was originally thinking of heading west on the canal to Rochester and heading up into Lake Ontario and then going across to the East end to the Thousand Islands area but with no access mI'll obviously have to rethink this. ......(thinking.....thinking......thinking......thinking....)

GOT IT !!!!!.....Anybody have any thoughts on going the Canal Route to Waterford and then north through Lake Champlain and down the St. Lawrence to the A-Bay area? I guess a Get-Together Date will be needed so I can plan the timing.

I did that trip from Clayton in 2008 and had a ball. We went up the Rideau Canal to the Ottawa River to the Seaway and then to Montreal. Montreal to Sorel and then up the Richelieu River to Chambly and then to Lake Champlain, the Champlain canal to Waterford and then west though the Erie canal and on to Lake Ontario and back to Clayton. took us 5 weeks. If you eliminate the Rideau then figure about 3-4 weeks. Remember at the end of Lake Champlain you enter Canada and you need to clear customs and your now touring Carver ccountry.

??? Aren't you near Wayne on Oneida? Take the Erie to Oswego River, 7 locks later you are on Lake Ontario.

No need to go to Waterford or Rochester.

I'm actually on the same Lake as Wayne...just at the Western end and he's on the Eastern end. I've been up the Oswego River tons of times to Lake Ontario but I was just thinking about a longer way around to take up more time and have a longer cruise. I guess the idea of going up Lake Champlain is out now too because I'm barred from Canada. (long story) I guess the only way to the 1000 Islands for me is through Oswego and into Lake Ontario to avoid Canadian waters. Oh well......It was a thought. I've also done the cruise to Waterford and up the Champlain Canal to Lake Champlain but never went to the northern end of it. I guess it turns out that that was a good thing because I was unaware that the northen end was in Canadian Waters.

Riveredge Resort in Alex Bay, Totally and very nicely redone by new owners. I delivered their 52' Fairline there in May 09. Their dock prices are the same as Oswego.

Tanq - I'm wondering you might be able to do that if you're just transiting and don't land?

As long as you dont anchor or dock you are not landed in canada and chances of being checked are very very slim...

I agree, chances are slim that you will be caught. But once in Canadian waters you are in Canada and Customs will take dim view if you are prohibited. Our customs guys can be every bit as miserable as your Border Protection guys.

I pulled this from the Riveredge website. This truely is a great spot and close to all amenities (liquor/beer).

Hopefully we'll make to this year's Get-Together, first step this year will be actually putting the boat in the water!

Well, it looks like the Admiral is going to become a grandmother in early August.
I have already voiced my concerns with my stepson about:
1. That is our normal lake cruising slot.
2. I now have to sleep with a grandmother.

He told me he can't change history and to go pound sand.

I am trying to arrange time off for the first ten days of July now.

boatpoker,

I noticed a "bight" out of one of the aft corners of the swim platform on the 52' Fairline last summer and was curious what had caused that. Do you know how that happened? I was surprised they left it unrepaired all season.

We can participate if the trip is in May, June or early July, but an August date will put us out. Work will take up all the weekends.
Alex Bay or Sackett's would both be easy runs for us.

Of the two, Alex Bay is much more "touristy" (sp?).

Looks like early July might be the most convenient and Alex Bay appears to be the Port of choice by the
majority.

The Other Gary... Have you been able to re-arrange your time off?

How about a head count for July in Alex Bay.
