I was speaking with a Buddy today who keeps his boat at Haverstaraw. When he went to pay for the slip, they lowered his slip fee by $180.00.
As he has a 24' boat that's $7.50 per foot for the season.

They must have been following a recent thread here.

Interesting Pete, we'll see what happens when I go up to pay the balance of my slip fee in a few days. As you know, if you pay the balance before January 15th, you get a $2 per foot reduction (a whopping $60 for me). Hope you and Brandy and your crew are enjoying your retirement home and marina. Happy New Year!

Thanks John all is good.

Yea I'm aware of the $2 discount for early pay, my understanding is that this is on top of that discount. Let me know if you need more info and I will email it to you.

If the marinas want to stay in buisness they should do something to keep the people into boating. Alot of people in my buis. have adjusted rates for the economy.

Pete, out of curiosity I just Google Earth'ed Osprey Marina in Myrtle Beach. It looks like a nice, well protected marina, but...it also looks like a long ride to get to the ocean going either north or south. Is that waterway part of the ICW?

Yes We're about 600' off of the ICW. If you head north you get to see beautiful homes and have access to a number of restaraunts, and the Ocean in North Myrtle Beach. The drawback is the ICW through this area is a man made ditch, and that's exactly what you feel like your traveling in. If you turn south you are on the Waccamaw River, which is nature at it's best all the way down to Georgetown,(about 25 miles), where you can access the Ocean through Winyah Bay. You constantly see herrings, ospreys, eagles and an occasional alligator. You can also head north up the Waccamaw into Conway which is a real nice ride with a beautiful little town at the end.

The marina is wonderful, the staff is helpful and friendly, and we get to park our truck about 30' from our boat. I have good water depths albiet 6' but that is good for the area, and we stay in year round.

Right now the weather is in the 30's during the day and 20's during the night. I leave the heater in the boat set at 50 and that keeps everything dry. The water temp is in the 50's and having fresh water cooled engines I have little to worry about,(I hope!!).

The marina charges by the month, and my yearly fees are less than summer and winter storage in NY, nevermind winterizing and shrink-wrapping. A nice feature is that the marina does not nickle and dime you. You pay for the slip and electric and thats it!! If I want my boat pulled every two months so I can clean the bottom, it's done at no charge. Also when I wash my boat it stays clean for weeks, no little black dust from the gypsum plant.

All said, it's been a real good move that we haven't regretted at all.

So Pete, You ready to come back to Yankee Country yet?

With Haverstraw having a fire sale, How can I not consider it.

Alright I considered it; . . . maybe next year.

Just got home and had a great message on the answering machine from Haverstraw Marina. A $350 reduction in the balance of my summer slip fee! A nice belated Christmas present.

Hey Pete, Is Woody still working at the marina? We stayed there on our way up from Florida and he was a big help getting us fuel and a slip for the night. And there was this really pretty girl running hte grill that charmed my son. A great marina but there is nothing to walk to...

Very nice, good for you!

So what are the per foot fee's now? Sounds like something very worth considering...

Since I haven't gone up there yet to pay the balance of my slip fee, I don't know if this is a permanent reduction or a one-time incentive for this year only. A rough estimate is a reduction of about $12/ft for my boat (27'-32' category) or from $87.50/ft (including $2 reduction for payment before Jan 15th) to about $75/ft.

Trying to woo over some SPBM customers? Maybe they can make it more family freindly and they may succeed.

That would require them putting money into the place which in the past did not happen.

At $75/ft, they could lure quite a few boaters over there!

From their website:

Look at our new rates for boats in the 20 to 32 foot size range. $76.00 a foot on the South side and $75.00 a foot on the North side!

BTW, PennyBridge is $75/foot.
