Haverstraw must be watching this Forum

Pete, if thats what it will take to get you to come back to New York, Lets go...
Then after we take care of buisness we can sit at the Tiki bar and have a few drinks!

Butch I made it as far as the airport this AM. They wanted to do something called a "cavity search".

Sorry I tried, but it ain't going to happen.

If you've read the contract that you signed, it clearly tells you that they are charging you for the actual length of the boat and not the finger length.

Should be no surprise here if they come and measure, they have been doing this for over 20 years and is a well know fact of boaters there.

Everyone wants to rip apart this policy, but I think they are within their rights to charge for actual length if it's in the contract you signed.

They are not the only marina to do this.

But they make non-members pay for that privilege now.

Plus occasionally fill the gas tanks?

I guess I don't know why they are evil at Haverstraw excepting Butch's case. They measure boats everywhere and we have been challenged a number of times along the ICW. All they have to do is put you on a face dock instead of a finger and rest assured, they will know how long you are and many will hold you to it. We are using their space and thus have to rent it.
But in a finger, it's a bit different. Why? Most fingers don't go out that far and that gives me a reason to challenge the actually LOA. If they don't provide a long enough finger to hold the bow in adequately they have no business charging for LOA.
Personally I find Haverstraw very crowded. Sure the people make the place and it's fun, but those aluminum docks are noisey and hot. More over you have to walk what seems like forever to get to your car. At the RYB we got tagged for LOA, and since we were on a face dock I had no real issue with it. But if we had to back into a finger I'd look to keep it at the number on the side of the boat.

No, they only treat their regular customers like crap

Holy Sh*t!! This tread starts off by saying Haverstraw lowers their price by $7.50 per foot and ends up saying they treat their regular customers like crap.

It must be winter time in NY

It's too far to walk.

Actually Pete, they lowered the price by almost $12/ft. I must be in the lucky monority. I've never felt that I've been "nickeled and dimed" and I've always had a good relationship with the management folks. Yes, the walk can be long from the car to the boat, but for us older farts it's good exercise and it doesn't bother me. The aluminum docks do get hot...so no barefootin' on a hot summer day. But, there are plenty of good people here too and you know what?
We can come and go from our slip at any time of the day or night and not have to worry about low water. So for all the Haverstraw naysayers, it's ok if you don't like Haverstraw as long as you are happy where you are. I am happy where I am.

I think its great that they have lowered the price'e. I think its a shame the bigger boats are still paying the higher rates. Slip Fees add up, For the past 4 years I have been paying $75.00 a foot for a 39 footer that could be measured as a 43 footer. I enjoy being able to use the money for fuel instead.

Haverstraw is a great place, great protection and plenty of water. Long walk and not so personal management but its members due help. I have met and have some great friends that are in Haverstraw. For me, I prefer the smaller, family oriented type marina. As for water we are really lucky, we due have more than some of the others. Only problem we have is when it was designed years ago bigger boats were put closer to shore so yes we due get alittle low at times. Good news is marina tries to keep the fairways clear for us.

Back on topic, I say its a nice gesture on the marina's part but as I said its a shame they limited to smaller boats. Now lets hurry up and get the darn noats back in the water and no comment from you Pete....

Alright Butch, I'm keeping my noats high and dry out of the water.:D

It's too damn cold to even go look at the boat

I was at the boat today. Killed me not getting on it. Sure felt good over looking the river, even with all the ice out there...
