Heading for the Exumas

Have a good crossing and keep us updated. Those of us who love the Bahamas and aren't there right now find watching other RO's travels quite entertaining.

Have a ball and be safe!! How long will you be there?

Photos!!! We want photos!!

You covered a lot of distance in 8 hours. How fast does your boat cruise?

Bob

Looks like he's at the Bimini Big Game Club.

Ken, if you're there try their cheeseburger. Not bad at all!!

Bob

That is correct. We are at the newly reopened Big Game. The place is coming along great. The hotel room are starting to open in the next week or so.

We plan on leaving here first thing in the morning and head to nassau the northern route. I hope to be there early afternoon.

The crossing was less than two feet and was just fine.

Ken

Northern route? it's a little longer, i usually go south a couple of miles to the Sapona (a nice stop for snorkeling if you haven't been there yet, come on the bank just south of Turtle Rocks) then from the Sapona to a point about 3 miles E of Cat Cay before turning on the route towards Chub.

have been to the Exumas before? i spent a few weeks there this winter, Bill too, so if you need local knowledge, just ask!

Ken, we just left the Exumas, came up to the Abacos by way of Spanish Wells. Currently in Marsh Harbour.

The Exumas are beautiful, clearest water I have ever seen. Some pics here:

Enjoy your trip, it is paradise!

Pascal, We are going north it is just 9nm longer, but we want to go by north rock and see that side.

The wind is blowing right now. I hope it settles down before we enter northwest channel.

Nice blog. Well written.

Bob

Yes it is Bob, and it has pushed my buttons enough to make me want to try again when we get Freedom in shape. It's tough because she is a 1985 and ship happens.

Heck, my boat is practically new compared. It's a '87! :D

Plus mine is only 28' so that means my problems are much smaller as well!!

But I am looking forward to your new blog. Heck, now that my repower is done I may even hook with you somewhere along the way.

Bob

I think that would be fun. I am pushing to leave her in the water over the Summer next year. We'll see how it goes!

The trip over to Atlantis was nice. Got here around lunch time. We had around two feet in the North Channel.

This place is huge!!

Looks like they're anchored out near Shroud Cay. I've never been there but it looks really nice. May have to go down there later this year.

Bob

Ken-I don't see how you can be over in the Bahamas when you could be in Chatfield res with the golfball sized hail on the 4th and all the wonderful people at the boat ramp :) When you are back in Colorada let's meet for a drink. I will buy the first round.

No internet for the last few days. Spent one night in Shroud Cay and one night in Wardrick. I prefer Shroud. We took the dink out to the sound and spent a couple of hours at the most beautiful beach I have ever seen.

Here our a few pictures from the last couple of days.

Lets do that. We should be back in colorado in a couple of weeks. Right now we are enjoying the most clear water I have ever seen. We plan on hitting dungus (sp), then sampson and the pigs, and finally thunderball before heading back to nassau and then a couple of days back at bimini before heading back to the west coast of florida.

Ken

Ken, how was the passage from Paradaise to the Exumas? Did you go through the coral heads and find it very challenging. Did you need high tides? Sounds like Shroud is very nice!

We just completed a couple of fabulous weeks in the Abacos and are looking forward to the second half of the trip in two weeks to Atlantis, Paradaise and the Exumas. In spite of the early tropical weather activity the water was very clear for excellent diving.
