How about using #boateredforums on Instagram?

I thought this would be an easy way for RO to share pictures.

How about if we all start using the hashtag #boateredforums when posting boating related pictures on Instagram?

Instagram is easy to use from any mobile device, allow a link to pictures to be easily copied and pasted in posts and most importantly doesn't require membership to view pictures.

By using the hashtag, RO posts can easily be found all on one page.

I asked Les, he is ok with this...

Reason for #boateredforums instead of just BoaterEd is that there are already some posts on Instagram with that hashtag and also having the word forums in the tag tells non RO Instagram users what the tag is about.

Note that images can only be linked, not embedded in a post like photobucket and that to view all the #boateredforums pictures on one page you have to use a mobile device (phone or tablet)
 
Pascal, that first picture is depressing. We have snow. You want to see pictures of some snow with a hashtag...? LOL
 
Well you can post pictures from the now defunct summer season :)
 
I don't # anything. Not even sure what that is.
 
I'll admit I don't understand it but it seems a way to break up BE. PIX must be hosted somewhere so how is it better and additive to BE?? I have even lost interest in Knotty's boat building thread because he is moving stuff to his blog.

Call me a Luddite but there are more variations on web communications than I care to follow. Blogs, tweets, IM, email, face book and others. I like it simple, one place for everything. I even wiped my facebook account because I prefer using email and having stuff in one place.

I use photobucket and have for years. I just can not see switching all the content and or storing content in two places. Photobucket works just as easy as Instagram. Plus I don't use twitter and am not exactly sure how to hash tag. Sorry Pascal, have to agree with others. I do not see the value.
 
oops, i did boatered and it looks like its owned by Gloria Graham, but she looks like Michelle Obama!

I give up, could not figure out how to post to #boateredforums. Not very intuitive.
 
Let's try this one:

I have a Pogoplug device at my house. It's $25. Hook a hard drive up to it and it'll keep a copy of anything you want it to automatically. You can back up your smartphones (Android, iPhones, etc.), computers, tablets, etc. Use the app on a mobile device and have access to all the files. Here's a picture I took on my phone the other day that's be automatically backed up to a 1TB HD I have connected to my Pogoplug. It shows fuel in my port tank (left) and fuel in my starboard tank (right). Yeah, that's a totally different topic! The link was created simply by right-clicking on the photo from my home computer.

Granted, I do have my own web servers, data servers, etc. at my office, but this is what anybody can do for $25 plus a hard drive. And you're not "giving" your files away to some third party to hold on to, look at, and serve to NSA. How much easier does it get? $25 and host your own backup "cloud" along with your own photo postings.
 
Only problem is it doesn't re-size the pics to make them user friendly for every one else that views this thread.

That was easily fixed. I just re-sized it on my computer and saved a copy. Within a few seconds it was saved to the external drive and I was able to link to it.

The app is available for free in both the Apple store and Google Play. Simply search for "Pogoplug".

They also offer unlimited "cloud" storage for $50/year I think. I've got my own at work so I don't need theirs.
 
Im probably one of the youngest ROs here, and I have no idea about instagram. Everyone mine age uses it, I dont know what it is, and I dont plan on finding out what it is..

I don't know what "intstagram" is, or what it does, and I don't plan on wasting any brain cells finding out. The number sign is used for numbers.

I just wish there was an easier way to post pictures on BE.

While I agree with you conceptually today it seems that every week there more and more new social media etc. sites. All of them splinter communications into many places. All are designed to make somebody rich not to fundamentally improve communications.
The future may consist of a babel of sites but I just don't see any purpose to try to follow multiple communication paths.
