How clear's the bay?

3rd hand I heard the NJ offshore guys are reporting a lot of stuff 50 plus out.
 
Went to Watch Hill & Davis today, not much debris in patchogue.. Docks at Davis are pretty banged up..
We only saw a couple of dock planks floating..
 
I fished with a friend out east yesterday, ran his boat from Noyac and fished off Montauk. There was some debris in the bay out there, not real bad but we did hit a 4x4 at speed, luckily no damage. Once we got out to Montauk there was a lot of debris in the water especially on the outgoing tide. Mostly small stuff, at times so thick you couldn't avoid it, but some bigger logs also. We heard a lot of people on the radio reporting large debris, especially north of Block Island. Lost track of how many people called the Coast Guard to report large debris fields. One guy in a 34' Sea Ray off Pt Judith hit a log and was taking on water slowly and kept in communication with the CG for a while. Later another boat was taking on water but I'm not sure what the reason was. When we got back to the marina one of the other guys was saying he hit something running out too but all was okay. I don't think the GSB is too bad right now but anyone going out into the sound or larger bodies of water really has to keep a close eye on things for a while.

Having been through the western bay several times this weekend, I have to say I saw no repeat of what was there on Thursday. It all seems to have gone somewhere, and I hope it stays there.
 
I keep pulling huge pieces of wood out of the bay as it comes in next to our floating dock in Massapequa. I am a house off the bay and the stuff is endless. Clearly the debris is from bulkheads and other docks. Right now I almost have enough to build a second floater!

Went out on the jet ski for a look around. Lots of single piece floaters. Endless. My buddy won't even take out his big Tiara for fear of slamming into this stuff.

Be careful out in the GSB. There is still a lot of stuff out there and not very visible until it's too late. Yard tells me they are overwhelmed with boats that have hit things right now.
 
I was down at my dock this morning and there was more crap wedged between my boat and the dock. Pieces of wood with nails sticking out of it. Not sure if this stuff is coming from broken docks or people who weren't diligent enough to secure all the loose junk in their yards before the storm and the big tides. Maybe a little bit of both.
 
Someone I know hit something on the way east to conequot river, and lost a prop on a 340 dancer. He got towed back to marina. Don't have the details, but he definitely hit something floating in the water east of the Robert Moses bridge.
 
Ran home thru moriches, didn't see much debris but the channel is tight by red 18 and 20.
Our friend with a 42 ran aground heading east, then again heading west.
Going easy, he was out of the channel, going west he was in the channel but must of clipped the north side shoal and spun him around.

Always go through at idle speed and don't follow someone, becaue I think when you do, the water gets lower and it's harder to see the shoal!

Gee what good is a dancer if it can't dance around a little junk in the water....
 
Rain and wind from last night loosened up even more stuff. Big boards appearing regularly. This is the worst I have seen it. Talked to the TOB Constables who said the same.
