Just wondering how many here drop the hook in and true and catch a meal?

I was thinking about posting my fishing reports here once I get going this year.

The new fluke regs are gonna hurt a bit.

I enjoy it, though no where near "good" at it. But I'd be interested in the reports if only to convince my dad to get back out on the water -- so let 'em rip!

How far up the Hudson do you fish?

I target fluke inside and outside of Barnegat inlet and weakfish in the bay by Forked River and in Toms River. Every time I take a cruise in the ocean I bring my snag pole in case I see a school of bunker. I just snag the bunker and let is swim. With any luck it will attract a striper. I also have a couple of crab pots that I drop in Toms River.

I'm out of Liberty Landing in Jersey City so I head straight down to the Hook area for Fluke and like to fish Sandy Hook reef for Sea Bass.

My family and I fish the Shrewsbury/Navesink Rivers, Sandy Hook and Raritan Bays and the ocean near Sandy Hook when it is calm. I try to get out every weekend from late April to Nov.

We fish for flounder, stripers, fluke, weaks and blues. I have not ventured out to Sandy Hook Reef yet but am considering it - I would appreciate any tips on the fishing there for sea bass.

I would read them even though I'm from CT. I target mostly Fluke with my buddy. I didn't look at the CT regs for Fluke but remember all the press in Washington last year about the tighter regs throughout the east coast. I have a great tip I won't share here but can email you if your a serious Fluke fisherman it's not top secret but produces large fluke and if you hit the honey whole you can't miss. We jumped in average size per catch the first time we tried it and ended the year with a 10.5 pounder as our best for the year. We also caught a 5.5 pounder on the same drift. I posted it on CTfisherman.com last year. A great site for fisherman in the area.

I just checked the CT DEP regs and they don't have the 07 regs posted yet. What's the new regs for Fluke in jersy for 07 ?

Sandy Hook Reef is not far off shore, just south of the Hook.

did the reg for fluke stay the same as last year? we have 6 per angler 18" min but the regs say it will change this year ?
Mark

Dom,

I print out those reg sheets on orange paper and laminate them. Easy to find, always keep it on the boat.

Do you think if I photoshop out New Jersey and replace with New York the DEC would buy it??? LOL!

I boat out of Shark River. The majority of boaters there are fishermen. I make it a point to go fishing at least one of the weekend days and cruising the other. In the past, I've fished from Sandy Hook to as far south as Seaside no more than 10 miles out - generally target fluke, sea bass, weaks, blues and stripers. With the purchase of the new to me 37' Egg Harbor, I plan to spend more time heading offshore to fish the deepwater wrecks and eventually the canyons - targeting tuna and sharks.

Hope you have a great season SANDY K it sure sounds like fun.

Jonathan.. Thanks for the info.

CT Fluke regs did change for 07 18" min, 5 per angler, April 30 - Sept 5th

2007 NY regs:

19.5"
4 fish per angler
Season open all year.

Hogan,

I was just reading about the regs in NY today in a fishing forum. Lots of unhappy fisherman and some made comment about the charter guys having the hardest time with it.

I Fluke fish around Gardners Island area alot and many party boats come through there from NY and CT. Nothing you can do about but 19.5 can be a challenge for many anglers.

A lot of charter guys in Montauk are going to be hurting this year - hate to see them forced out of business.
