I had a new teak step made for the cockpit. It's a one step, up to gunnel. I am trying to find, with no luck, the name, part number and where I can find this bracket. You see them all the time, yet I can't locate it in any of the 4 marine supply stores I've been to.

This is what I'm talking about below, it attaches to the step and slides into a dog bracket attached to gunnel. I am NOT looking for the latch shown in second photo. Hopefully someone can help?

I can't tell from the pic. Is it an "L" bracket or a "T" bracket shape?

It looks as if it would be fairly easy to make by machine shop. Is it Stainless or Aluminium?
 
Probably is an easy to make part. It's stainless and basically it's a latch bracket made up of 2 L- shaped pieces that interlock with one another.

Surely someone else has seen them on boats, they are used mostly for keeping stairs, steps snug to attached wall or bulkhead. You lift up on step or stair to unlock. Simple design that works. But I can't find one! LOL

I had them on a boat I owned. Searched extensively and cant fond them either.
I guess the old ones have gone missing???
 
Thanks Bruce. The other step I had, used the flat-head bolt into bracket set-up, like the second photo I posted. The problem is that the step really needs to be flush as possible against gunnel and not 1/4" from gunnel as used with the bracket in second photo. The bracket I need in first photo, is from an weathered but identical step on my identical model boat, from a slip neighbor.

I do recall seeing some different mounts that might work try searching stainless stuff at granger. Com
I wish I knew you could consider others when I searched. I swear I found something.
 
I realize that the original fit snugly against the bulkhead but what does that really matter as long as it is fastened tightly?

Bruce, it will work as you describe. A flat head bolt screw into stair stringer then slid into receiver, this puts most of the load on the bolt and head and possible tearing out from the stringer edge. Butting the stringer up tight to the gunnel and securing it in a locked position, puts all of the pressure on the stringer edge itself.

I may end up having to use the alternative though...:-) Thanks.
 
Can you inlet the mount area ( the bottom for example)to allow most of it to contact the bulkhead?
 
All the older Trojans had these for cockpit access. There used to be a company named Marine Tech in Lancaster, Pa that was owned by two guys named Larry and John. They worked for Trojan and bought all the spare parts when Trojan closed their factory. I haven't bought anything from them for a while, but they may still be in business. Couldn't hurt to try tracking them down. They were a wealth of info on the older Trojans, not to mention being a parts source.

I really appreciate all of your efforts in helping me locate this what appears to be, obsolete bracket.
