Go up to Essex Island Marina, plenty of kids, nice pool, huge lawn, game room, "ferry ride" to town.

We prefer the most northern B slips, gorgeous sunsets from there and extremely calm.

Just watch the "no wake" zones - they enforce them, just ask Robyn's Nest.

I love that place... Went for the first time last summer. Looking forward to going back.

WOW.............

An option to Essex which is about 6 miles upriver(CT river) is Marina at American Wharf in Norwich CT, about 13 miles upriver(Thames river) – Kids may like to see the Subs in the Sub pens as you cruise by the New London Sub Base
Nice Marina with pool, restaurant – no real ‘town’ to visit- BUT has free shuttle to both Foxwoods & Mohegan Sun- which could be fun for all

Andy,
I dont think the local POLICE like being looked at... The one part of the trip I dread is going past the sub base.... I think the kids might like the gun boat that comes up to greet ya though... get a nice close look at the 50 caliber...
