I have two AC units a 9000 btu unit and a 16000 btu they are both split units half in the cockpit and the blower in the stateroom or saloon. I have never had any trouble with either unit until this weekend. I started the generator (this is a whole other story for an other time) I went to turn on both of my AC units and only one appears to have any power at the display. I check the power and notice the light for this breaker is out. I assumed it must be a bad breaker so I opened the panel and found power coming out of the breaker. I Located the control board for the unit and it too has power however the power light on this board was out. I tried to switch they keypads and the one that was dead worked fine on the working unit but the working one was still dead on the bad unit. I'm not sure what to check next, I really have been way over budget this year I don't want to spend money calling in someone to troubleshoot this if I don't have to.

Any advice would be appreciated!
 
You have a 9000 btu unit, then you turned on both????????????????? Does anybody understand?
 
Dave check the wires on the terminal strip of the control board on the AC unit. I had one that went bad at the terminal lug. I put a new lug on it. I had the exact same problem you are describing. For the life of me I can't remember which circuit the wire was part of but I think it was between the start cap and the main PC board. Unless I take the unit apart or review the schematic I can not be sure which wire it was. The other thing I have seen is the RJ45 on the control board where the remote plugs in gets dirty spray some contact cleaner in there once you pull the remotes plug in (similar to a CAT5 connector) then replace the remotes connector back into the RJ45.

Jim I have a 16000 and a 9000 the 16000 is working fine.

Bill my remotes have an odd flat wide plug I have never seen before. I took it out and cleaned it then I swapped it with the other unit and it worked fine in the second unit but neither work in the smaller unit. I did look at the terminals but I will have to take a closer look when I have more time. I metered the input at the control board and it is clearly getting voltage.
 
It sounds like a bad control board to me, can you swap it with the other unit?
 
Can you swap a 9000 unit with the 16000 unit that look the same but are clearly labeled which unit they were for. I have been reading on line tech tips and I agree it sounds like a bad board. Does anybody know a place to buy replacement parts for a reasonable price. I have to repair my generator water pump as well and I don't want to break the bank.
 
I just called Tampa Bay Marine Air very nice very helpful, they confirmed I can swap the boards. It's a lot of work but at least I will know for sure if this is the problem this board lists for over $900 and they sale for about $500 this is a lot of money but it was hot on the boat without it this weekend.
 
Once again everyone was correct the problem was the control board however what I found was a bad solder joint on the ac input terminal. I repaired the connection and it working like a charm!!! If only the Kholer water pump for my gennie was as easy of a fix I'm waiting on a price for the new pump but it should be in by the Friday so I can replace it over the weekend.

The rebuild kit is everything but the housing The parts are real close to the price of a new one, just doesn't make sense.
 
For those not sure how I figured this out, it was not as hard as it may have sounded.

The front of the board looked great no signs of problems.



However from the rear it was obvious!



I sanded the connection then re-soldered it and all is well!
 
If you have the bronze water pump, you might want to check with Depco pump in Clearwater. Repair parts are much cheaper than a new pump. When the pump failed on my 7.3 Kohler, I had no choice but to replace it as mine was the original plastic pump-which is one step above worthless.
 
Yes I have the bronze pump. I have the local shop hunting one down for me! He reads this forum so I will say this he a real nice guy and I'm sure he will take good care of me! The best part is he said he would have it in a couple of days!
 
Dave are you sure you don't just need an impeller and the O ring for the cover?

I wish! I change then out and then it was blowing out the back weep holes of the pump and hard. I had an impeller and O ring on board . I tried rescue tape but the pressure was just to much for it and no way to spread the tape to handle it.

I should have a new pump by Friday and the way the weather is looking I won't need it for two weeks anyway.
 
I wonder are there any restrictions in the flow causing this?
I did see where you got it running using an external water pump.
So I guess not?

The initial cause was it sucked air from a loose cap on the strainer it over headed and melted the impeller and I would assume the O ring as well. I got a call today telling me the pump will be in on Friday and the price isn't much more then the rebuild kit so I'm good with this. I disconnected all the hoses and I don't see any blockages I will replace the hoses as well they are starting to go now is a good time for me to change them. I don't think this whole project is over an hour job even with changing the hoses.

I'm just happy I was able to troubleshoot and make these repairs myself I'm guessing I saved well over a Boat buck!
 
Audrey - congrats for fixing this yourself. I work for a company that assembles boards like this. It is at most a $100 board. A little bit of investigation can save a ton of mone.

Yeah, I've run into that more than once. :-)

List price on this board is over $900 selling price is between $400-$500 if you can tell me where to buy for less it would be greatly appreciated. I had a hard time finding a dealer that could even order the part for me no the less getting if for a deal of a price.
