Marine Oil Filters

as well. The reason nobody uses Fram is because of

1. This metal body
2. Less filter media than other brands
3. Cardboard anti drainback valve that of course doesn't work.
4. Low grade media as compared to other brands.

Plus there are a TON of Chinese and Korean Fram knockoffs that are worse than the originals...if that is possible.

Time for a recap...

Fram filters are total crap. MerC filters are made by Champion Labs, a very good filter if you want to pay a little extra for the Quicksilver branding. Purolator filters are very good...and reasonably priced. NAPA filters are made by WIX...some of the best on the market, and again, reasonably priced.

I've been to the Wix, Puralator, Sierra, and Fram web sites and used all their cross reference tools. The all come up with nothing for the Quicksilver 35-866340Q02. So how the heck to I cross it??

We have this kind of problem before at the oil refinery. What we did was measure the diameter of the rubber o-ring of the existing oil filter. Call technical and mention the o-ring diameter and configuration. Knowing the application technical group was able to find their oil filter for our use.

In another occasion, I measured the diameter of the o-ring (old filter), went to Wal-Mart and found the oil filter with correct size rubber o-ring. Checked the application book to determine what the new oil filter is for, and compare. Work all of the time.

Your filter number may be superceded by a new part number for the same filter. Google it, get matching part numbers, then go back to the napa online site and see if you can cross ref one of those. For instance, I found FIL1086 matches 35-802885Q, which may match yours. Or just take your old filter to Napa and compare it to FIL1086.
