Dave, did you go under the Robert Moses bridge yesterday around 11:30am?
 
I was on the bridge looked over and said. Hmmm that looks like daves boat. By the time i was able to fumble my camera you were just a dot. Sorry.
 
Had a safe EZ trip this morning all the directions were spot on. Even at low tide it was fine. Have a great weekend all
 
Went thru Moriches with 4 other boats following on July 3rd at high tide (12 noon). Easy run, except for a few fishing boats sitting in middle of channel at very narrow section east of buoy 24.

We came back thru yesterday and had no issues. Caught high tide. Did east and west cut. Worst spot is from red 24 to red 26.
Go slow.
Zoom in on your gps and follow as best you can the old channel.
Hug the buoys tight.
One correction to above directions where it says go between red 24 and red 26.
Don't split them like a field goal.
Hug them so when heading east take red 24 on your left then follow that little spit of channel to red 26 and keep it on your right.
Don't go on plane until green 27.
We saw a 44 searay split them and he got stuck.
 
By the way,
While in Greenport, I meet Brian (BE Member), he said he did not go our route but went straight across the old channel and all was fine at high tide. The channel for that is still there and marked. I think Brian told me his boat (44 Searay) draws 41". He did go through on plane. Going the route we did, certainly adds a lot of time to the trip.

I mention this only because those that have smaller boats or less draft may want to consider that way. Myself, my boat is just to drafty (42" inches they say, but thinking more loaded) to do that. And I certainly don't have the balls to run it on plane. :)

If I had shafts I would do on plane and consider the channel. Certainly did it many times before
With pods and the heavier diesels I don't feel I plane like I used to. I am ass heavy and draft more.
Not worth losing a pod so I felt the way we went was more prudent.
 
Be careful heading through eastern Moriches Bay today - there seems to be something strange and shiny blocking the channel...

Good Morning all. Have there been any updates on Moriches for this season. I am running a 34 Silverton to Greenport tomorrow. Looks like if we don't run outside because of possible fog we may run inside and go through the area at high tide.
Any new info would be great.

Best bet is to call either Boat US or Sea Tow Moriches. They have been very helpful in the past.
 
Ditto to what Gene said, I am thinking that is your best source this early in the season. Also, Sea Tow has escorted us through Moriches, do don't be afraid to ask.

Hi All

Now that the season is underway, just checking for any updates on Moriches. Is the preferred passage still to head towards the inlet as shown on the chart by Walter ?

Yes that is what we hear.
If in doubt, call SeaTow Moriches.

When you leaving? Nando and 2 other boats are going Friday to riverhead.
