Well, the 2007 boating season came to an end for me on Friday when I had 'Finseeker' hauled out at her winter home (the Anchorage). It turned out to be a really nice season, we had a nice mix of fishing and cruising trips and spent a lot of time on the boat. I put 155 hours on the engines for the season, and covered 1741 nautical miles according to the GPS. Launch was April 25th, haulout November 16th, and between those dates we used the boat 53 days and spent 31 nights aboard. In addition to that I did some fishing trips on friend's boats and had some days where I just took the dinghy out for clamming or a ride straight from home.

We fished 2 shark tournaments (won 1), had 3 Watch Hill trips, and 3 canyon trips (1 day, 2 overnight). Our summer trip was to Essex CT and Hamburg cove, and then went to Montauk for a few days of fishing. In September I spent a week at Liberty Landing commuting to work from the boat and took a couple evening cruises around the harbor with friends.

I still have a blackfish trip planned for a couple weeks on a charter boat, and then the next boating trip after that will be at the end of March when we do a 9 day bareboat charter in the Virgin Islands. Looking forward to that, and then launch should be a week or so after we get back.

No, I always haul it out. We left my dad's boat in a couple times in the past and it was never much fun dealing with the ice... (of course it always turned out to be extra cold winters when we did). Plus I don't have much water at my dock and during those real low winter tides my boat would be sitting in the mud and I'd be worrying about the props and shafts... As long as there's a place nearby to haulout I'd rather do that.

John, It looks like Tammie caught the biggest fish! Glad you had a great boating season, sorry we didn't get to see you guys - maybe next year.

Tammie did catch the biggest sea bass that day, and funny thing is it was the only fish she caught all day. Her back was bothering her a bit so she just hung out on the boat that day, and for a while went up to the helm and kept moving us back to the spot where the fish were. Finally in the last 30 minutes or so before we headed back into the marina at Montauk, we convinced her to fish for a little. Within 5 minutes she reeled in the biggest fish of the day and I think she stopped after that :)

Jonathan, I was looking at the tuna towers in the back and seeing if I could pick out your big boat, I wasn't thinking about the center console right there!

But genuinely great shots John, those are the shots of some great memories! Continued success, and we hope to out-do you folks next year.

All I have to do is figure out how to rig Freedom with some lines when we go across the Gulf Stream.
 
John.........NICE photos. Looks like you and Tammie had a great season. Im impressed with the 155 hours.........takes us 2 seasons to do that

Guys ... july 4th liberty landing... book it !

So far i got 160 something hrs... Bunch old friends are going out saturday... going to freeze our tails off...

Should be fun.... Happy thanxing giving guys ... start planning next year!!!! I only have august left to do.... were going back to kingston after liberty landing .... ending in riverhead 3 week july.... ( figured since I cant get in anywhere else might as well go east early and give john my watchill slip ... lol )
 
Don/Mark - offshore fishing can add up the hours quickly. The shark trips could be 80-100 miles round trip and the tuna trips to the canyon we're going 90+ nm one way from the inlet some times. I did 3 canyon trips between mid-August and early October and I did from 220-260 nm a trip, and some of that is trolling at slower speeds so you end up with a lot of hours.

Rob, I'm thinking of Block for July 4th next year and then go on to Martha's Vineyard from there and do another stop somewhere out east. I liked Liberty Landing in September this year, I may do that again, we'll see.

How is the view of the July 4 fireworks from Liberty Landing?

How early can you reserve a slip?

I may be in for that.
 
The dockmaster told us they either have the fireworks on the river or in liberty state park. He said either way u have a front row seat right at the dock. WE made our reservation last week for thursday to sunday of july 4th .

I can answer that in two words. It sucked. We were there this year and I will never stay there again for the 4th. Maybe I'll anchor out, but I will not pay a premium for nothing.

Damn Dan, was it really that bad? We were a stone's throw away from you and we had a good time, come to think of it we even spent a little time on your boat! We made our reservation for '08 as we checked out, sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it. But I will say the fireworks sound better up our way.

Maybe you should tell this crowd to come to Kingston for the Sunday before the 4th show, that one is on our to-do list for 2008.
 
We were led to believe we would have a great view from the boat and that has not sat well.
