My turn for haulout...

HA! Nope. Never. And I don't play well with others.

As I said we've had a great time in the city when we stay at LL. The bulk of the fireworks were on the East River, none made it into the harbor.
Perhaps as Geo said we're spoiled by having them on the Rondout and right over head to boot.
 
I just spoke to Margaret at LL and here is the lowdown on July 4 weekend.

3 night min and $1 over the prevailing rate for the holiday weekend (that's $5/ft based on current rates) plus electric. If their rates go up after Jan 1, then you pay on the increased rate.

I'm taking a pass on $645 (or more) plus electric.

What are the details for fireworks up the hudson at Rondout? Do you anchor up or take a slip somewhere?
 
Mark, there are fireworks all along the Hudson all summer long. Places like Bowline, Bear Mountain, Peekskill, Tarrytown, Kingston - take your pick. Ususally Boating on the Hudson magazine does an issue with all the dates and places.

Long Island Sound is another great place to catch fireworks.
 
Hogan, we boat on the Sound and have gone to a few places. We haven't ventured up the Hudson and am looking for a good alternative for the July 4 weekend.

Wherever we go, we like to get there early and stay over night or two. Too many people partying and heading back to their docks in the dark to move after the show is over.
 
Bowline is a good spot for Hudson July 4th fireworks. You could stay at Haverstraw marina and venture out into the river to watch the fireworks.

Plenty of boats also raft up and stay over in Bowline, I'm sure that the HRCC crew would welcome you to join in with them.

Going up the Hudson is way cool; I did it in 2005 with Dave and a few other boats. We went to Kingston, Haverstraw, and Liberty Landing. The HRCC has a cool playground with breath taking views, I highly recommend the trip.

Pat wants to do it so we have it on the trip calendar.

Now we just need to schedule our Block and Atlantic City trips. Everything else will be ad-hoc.

John, should have weighed that yellowfin in for the club. There's only one on the board at 55#, you would have had an award for the year with that one. I cut up one at 52# without even getting a weigh slip :(

Joe, we weighed it when we got back, it was 60 lbs dressed on a digital hand scale. But I wasn't really the angler so I didn't get a slip for it. One of the other guys was on the rod (older guy, first time fishing with us), he started getting tired after a while and we tried to coax him through it but he got to the point where he decided to hand off the rod. I took it and finished it off, didn't take too long at that point. I took a picture with it but for the club wouldn't take credit for it :) The one fish I fought that night the whole way was a small longfin.

We might try to get up the Hudson again this year but not in July, probably later in the summer. We'll see, always hard to fit everything in.
