Ive had the DJI Phantom for over a month now. Its very cool. Take great pics and video ...

Only issue has been Recovering it when launched from a v essel......

That my friends requires LOTS and lots of practice... landing on land is nothing compared to trying to land on a moving deck.... WIND , current,,,, all VERY VERY BAD !
so watch ur battery life....

Now imagine a 200 mph jet landing on aircraft carrier at night in rough seas!!
Been there, done that! You lose your cookies for sure!
 
Phantom 3 is not waterproof . Open winding motors .

Its a high end drone . HD camera and video... very easy to fly ... especially if u have ever had any RC devices before....

Landing is what requires patience if ur in a confined space and its windy.... I keep practicing to land on 2 ' round patio table.

DO NOT FLY IN THE HOUSE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha. Tried that with my practice drone. Admiral was not impressed. Look at the Mariner for waterproof drone.
 
I was at Croton Point Sunday and someone was flying a drone.

This brought up an interesting question....if I am on my boat and a drone flies by taking pics of my guests, which is more appropriate, to hit it with a water balloon or a rock?

Note to self, get sling shot ready.

I legally invaded people's privacy in the 1980`s and 90`s (via Title III wiretaps or other means). These personal drones and other more sophisticated drones will infringe on a person`s right to freedom from intrusion, trust me it`s already happening. So have fun with your toys I am 100% against their use or abuse domestically.

FWIW - there is thrid party software for the DJI phantom 2+ and soon V3 that does have a bunch of other nice features that have been mentioned on here.

1) Follow me mode. Set height and distance you want it to follow you at.

2) Ground route planning. Set up a course for the the unit to follow on google maps, height at each point, speed between and how long at each point.

3) POI (Point of interest) Select a point on google map. Select height and distance of circle to fly and the software flies the drone. Pick a point and set a radius of zero and the drone will autofly to the point and do a slow 360* panoramic video shot and then return. Got some awesome videos with this feature.
 
By far the best one I have seen yo can get in that price range. I'm still afraid to go that route. I need one I can dunk and retrieve

First off, not a fair comparison, when they make a "stealth" version, I agree! Till then, there is no invasion as the noise these suckers make can be heard way before they can see you.
I also am not aware of what laws are (non drone) and how they apply. For example, is it against the law to use binoculars to watch someone??? Take that step a bit further, let's say there is an open shade and someone is getting undressed in front of that window, if a person just watched is that a crime? If a person used a telescope or binoculars is that a crime? If so, then I see your point, if not I don't get your point.
 
I do see if you use a drone or video camera to record something and publicly post it, you may be in deep sh$t. But the paparazzi has been doing such for year and that is not illegal???
