We should start a thread here.

Just heard from Seatow that south end of Lindy cut is very narrow. Use caution.
 
I wonder what the Amityville Cut is like. Up around the couple of sets of buoys at the top of the cut has been pretty shallow the past couple of years. I hope it hasn't gotten any worse.
 
These report make me glad I moved to the North Shore!
 
Oh boy....I looked at after Sandy satellite and didn't see anything too bad in Aville.....

I heard the same reports abut the Amityville cut being unnavigable. I was out in early January on my friends 42' Viking and we took the Babylon cut to the State Boat Channel and traveled down to Zacks and back without any problems.

I just hope the Lindy cut isn't too bad...that's the way most of my trips start...
 
Lindy cut has been getting worse and worse for the large draft boats at low tide. Its real bad in early spring until SS3 gets some boat traffic. Something will have to be done sooner then later. I have always thought the channel is not marked correctly to begin with.

That stinks! Looks like I'll have to take the long way through the Massapequas to get to Zack's.
The Lindy Cut will have to so for Tobay and Gilgo.

They even posted a hand drawn map of fire island inlet.

Hello all
I have been tracking the threads with conditions after Sandy and Im getting more nervous by the day. My boat gets splashed this week and I have to run it from seaford, treasure island, to Amityville. Part of me feels safer going down to the state channel and running up Amityville. Can anyone confirm that the north side is impassable?
If I run the coastline all the way around I'm afraid of more debris near the damaged shoreline. I know there are all kinds of stories about cars in the bay and refrigerators sunk, decks, docks, boats. I wonder how much of that has turned into urban myth. I also heard that at a power squadron meeting last week they were saying that debris is getting caught at the bridges and going under the bridges was bad.
Any further reports would be great. I am also going to call Sea tow this week for some local updates. Sea Tow has been great on facebook with there updates and pictures. Those pictures of Frank and Dicks were sad.

I don't want to add more stress but I was talking to Dave and Walter ( Current Sea and Windy Clipper ) almost every picnic table , dock box and Bar b Q are MIA from the Anchorage. SS3's pool is gone. Was talking to a Captain that brought a boat around from merrick and he hit 2 items in the canal leading down to the old SS3 delivery center. Had no issues other then that .

"Sand bars everywhere, most notably in the inlet. There is a bar the size of Yankee Stadium where the 6 buoy used to be. Ran agound by Captree. Frank & Dick’s wrecked."

Has anyone ran the shoreline through Massapequa? Or Squaw Island channel from Wantagh #2 bridge east? There are More pictures from Sea tow on facebook today. Are the channel Markers out in the bay yet?
 
My take on this mess is there is definately crap on the bottom.
While you may think its best to follow someone, this actually may be worse.
Think about it, big diesel boat goes by and churns bottom up, you follow him and hit what he churns.

My best advice, stick to center of channel as best you can. No short cuts.
If your following someone, back off and let them run, don't follow close.
 
Splashed the boat yesterday in Amityville took a slow run to Lindy, no buoys in yet but also no water in the bay. I was on the lookout for debris but didn't see any. That probably means everything either sank or drifted into shallow waters. Good Luck out there this year because there will be stories to tell come fall!
