Propeller repair

If your open to shipping them out, the best prop guy on the planet by far is Mark at Long Island Propeller. I have used him for my last two boats and if he told me what my rpm and speed would be with the new props they were RIGHT ON THE MONEY. Give him a call before you do anything. His knowledge will blow you away.
His number is 631-345-6295

No, I'm just saying there is two sides to every story and you came slamming someone's business.

Oh please, I stated facts, nothing more nothing less.

The guy quoted a price and didn't honor his quote. He said NOTHING about having to do extra work nor do the graphs bear that out.

I'm glad he works out for you. I'll never use him again. There are more reputable shops out there where I'm willing to spend my money.

Has anyone used S&S in Flushing NY? I'm sending mine out soon and they are who my shop recommended. Price is average about $400 per prop.

Dave
I cannot recommend S&S strongly enough to do them justice! Steve & Michael really know their stuff.

I had them make a set of their custom Katapult wheels for me. The first set they made I had a major problem with because I gave them the wrong specs of my gear boxes. They took them back and made me a new set- no additional cost just a NCIS probie slap to the head.

My boat is a different boat with their wheels and depending on RPM etc I have gotten 2-5+ more Knots from their wheels![:-bigeyes]:D

With boats our size this is a major improvement. I believe that Pascal had some work done by them as well and was happy with their work

indeed...

i dont know how good their work is with small stainless, I/O props but they did a great job on a pair of 36 inchers... pretty reasonable too, and they picked up / delivered right at the dock on failry short notice.

i wish more marine contractors were that serious about their work and customer service

Interesting, I just talked to Ray today cause I'm bringing in my props this week and told him about this post. Note - he wanted to say that he took over in April 2008. If your gripe is from after that, then the only fact is this...you got exactly what you paid for.

The fact that you even have graphs means that it was a Class 1 ISO Remanufacture. Ray told me that EVERY customer is given 2 quotes - a Class 1 Reman or a Class 1 tuning which is half the price. They are told upfront that they won't know which until props are measured in on computer. After props are measured in, every customer is called and informed of the results and what work is necessary. Ray said if you are sincerely confused by their pricing structure, he is sorry but his other 99% of customers can understand it and to check the testimonials on their website. And he also said you're welcome to post your graphs!

Again, you clearly have no idea what you are taking about.

Seems my dealings where with the previous owners if this guy took over in 2008. You'll have to forgive me if I continue to use someone who has been doing wheel tuning for more than a year and half.

My dealings where basically, it will cost X, I dropped the props off, got a call 1 week later that they were done and when I went to pick them up the cost was 2X.

Sounds like the new guy does things differently, then again he couldn't be worse than the guy before him.

I had my props done at Atlantis by the previous owner (Tom?). When I called him he gave me a quote over the phone for basic tuning but explained that he could not guarentee a price until the props were evaluated on the computer (makes sense). I brought them in expecting to drop them off and wait for a call; also brought the specs on the boat, engines, trannys, current RPMs at WOT and speeds at various RPMs as he had requested. He told me to have a seat and a cup of coffee while he explained prop science and the Prop Scan system to me.... the guy knew his stuff! About 15 minutes later the tech came out with the reports and graphs. Sure enough, one prop was way out of spec and the blades on both props were not pitched the same as each other. He explained how that was a result of hand tuning where each blade was tuned off the previous one. I learned a hell of a lot that day. The final estimate was more than the telephone quote but it was clearly explained why. The results after tuning were amazing!!! I've recommended Atlantis ever since.

I just picked up my props from Atlantis Propeller in Mount Laurel. I could not be more satisfied. Ray does excellent work and he is absolutely passionate about his job. I have printouts from him that show me the before and after work that was done on my props.
You have two choices...you can ask around and hope that a reputable guy bangs your props into proper alignment...or you can use Propscan and have documentation that the work was done not only correctly but to tight ISO tolerances.
