Has anyone ever tried this? When I helped a friend ferry his boat from Boston to Salem last Saturday (20-30 mph winds), we were getting some good spray coming over the bow. He had put RainX on just the helm side windshield section and I was amazed at how the salt water just beaded up and rolled off. There was no smearing at all compared to the port side windshield.
I'm going to give it a shot on my boat this summer. I guess if it works on cars no reason it shouldn't work on boats.... although it usually doesn't rain salt water.

Be sure you DON'T use it on your isinglass though. It will ruin it in short order...

I've been on boats that used Rain-X and was impressed with how well the Rain-X worked . I haven't tried it on my boat but that's because I generally avoid bad weather. My windshield is small but the plastic is big and I would'nt use it on the plastic.

I've used RainX a lot especially on offshore fishing boats that tend to run faster than they should and get a lot of bow spray. The stuff works amazingly well and usually the wiper is never necessary. The downside is that the stuff needs to be redone about every 2-3 weeks or it gets spotty.

One of the 'old time' bests is glasswax:

If you want high tech forget Rain X and go for PPG's Aquapel:

I use Rain-X on my automobiles and boat. Just applied the spring coat to the boat this past Saturday.

I have used Rain-X for many. many years.

Yup, I did it Jack when I had the 265 Chap on Winnie. Unreal results in the rain.

I used it regularly on my boat. The wipers never quite worked right but the Rain X made sure I could see where I was going.

I've used RainX on the boat glass, but didn't find it particularly effective. I didn't see much improvement from salt water spray, and the small benefit was short-lived.

Maybe the Aquapel would be better - I saw it at my local Costco not long ago.

Another vote for rainX. I operate a SeaTow vessel and each morning before I head out I apply RainX to all my glass. As Brad said, it is short lived in that have to reapply the product the next day I use the boat to get the full benefit.

I've never used it on my boat but will try it. I've used it for years on my hot rods and street rods. Works great. The faster you go the better it repels water.

On a boat I don't think you get enough speed to fully benefit, but it makes the wiper work smoother and that is good enough for me.

I do not see why the effect on a boat would be more short lived than on an automobile. I only apply 3 or 4 times a year on my cars.

Maybe on a boat the salt spray deposits make it seem like it is not lasting as long.

On my car if I am just running around town I frequently do not even use my wipers if the rain is not excessively heavy. Of course on the road and heavier rain I still need wipers.

Rain X works just as well in a marine application as in an automotive one. We use it on our race cars, and on the boat as well.

It also works really well on shower stalls and glass shower enclosures both on the boat and at the house.

I have been using it on the glass windshield for years. The water rolls of while underway and the salt water spots are reduced greatly. I apply it twice per six month season.

I once had a windshield repaired on my car. The repairman made a comment that he could tell I used Rain X. Told me that the glass absorbed it and it would eventually damage the glass. He recommended another product. I do not remember the name. I have been a bit reluctant to use it since because it had been several months after I had applied it to my windshied and he was correct in his observation that I had used it.

my brother just gave me a bunch of the aquapels--bought 50 of them for $6 each app. anxious to try it out

he says follow the directions and good for 7months.

like the rainx but the reapps are a pain.

has anyone tried just waxing the windows? wonder how long it lasts?
