Very sorry to hear of your loss. My boat floated away Monday night with no plugs. My family went to bed grieving for her. She was found Tuesday in relatively good shape and is back home now.
It's not "just a boat". I can't pinpoint it but our boats are something almost spiritual. We trust them to keep our families safe in bad weather, we have many great memories and learning experiences with the kids, it's our second home, etc.
Non-boaters may not understand. But they probably don't understand why we spend so much money boating. Lets face it, financially, it makes no sense. And I get the feeling most boaters are pretty frugal with the rest of their money, I know I am.
It's a passion, not a hobby.
