Rogue Wave question

Remind me to bring you a power plug so you can hard wire it to 12 volts DC maybe this will help as it wont reboot when you unplug.

I'd like to wire my router to 12v, as well

Mike - does it disconnect while you're using it, or while it's been idle for a while??

Both

Dave does it reboot when you hit the starter? All kinds of stuff reboots on Freedom when I start them up.

Is there a log facility in the router web interface? Perhaps you can enable it and get an idea. I use the Ubiquity Bullet M2 which is the same hardware without the "wrapper" and it has log facility within.

Mike if you seem to get stuck in the cycle of the ROGUE appearing to cycle you on and off Optima hotspots try going to the system reboot page, reboot the ROGUE. Then re-connect and see if the issue goes away. I can give Richard a call from WAVE WiFi and see if he has any other suggestions.
I found that when I was starting to see a larger number of Xfinity hotspots I had something similar to what you are seeing.
I found by running a lower gain antenna this minimized this issue. I'm not sure how Optima (part of the WiFi cable alliance) has their AP's configured but I suspect they may not support "roaming" within their owned/ managed access points.
Now if your boat is stationary at your home marina the connection should stay up.

Optimum roams.
Mine will automatically connect and login to the strongest optimum AP if it see's it.

Dave, when you say the ROGUE needs to be registered are you talking about it's MAC ID?
Thanks,
Bill

So my phone is registered, my boat is registered and my ipad is.
The phone uses this more than any other device and no matter where I am on long Island it usually will find a optimum hot spot and connect without me re-entering my signon info.

As I drive I have seen it drop signal and come right back.

Dave, your devices are hidden behind the ROGUE firewall, the MAC ID of the ROGUE is all the Optima's access point should care about for authentication.

Bill that only applies when they are running under the redistribution of the Wave. If he is driving around in his car, his cell phone will hook up all by itself.

Dan we both agree on how each individual device (SU's) authenticate with an Optima/ Xfinity or Cable access point.
I wanted to clarify how the ROGUE or similar devices mask the MAC address of the clients (SU's) behind it.

Billy this is one of the best features of the Rogue! You only connect one device to the hot spot and everything else is invisible so you can have a bunch of devices on board and no of them have to log into anything but the Rogue. I have been very happy with the unit!

I registered the rogue when I first signed on.
I tried to look at my devices on the website but it doesn't store mac address, just what you call it.
So one device in my list is boat and that is rogue.
When I go into wavewifi and I picked optimum for the first time, optimum comes back and asks for signon info.
It then asks do you want to register this device.
I said yes and now when I go into wavewifi and connect to optimum it doesn't ask for signon info.
And when I go to another marina with optimum the rogue will auto-connect.
By the way the autoconnect is a option I think, so perhaps Mike didn't click that.
Use the link I sent and go in and delete all your devices and start over perhaps.

My only issue on boat is we now have internet in the marina and for some reason the rogue won't save the password for that.
It has a WPA phrase and I enter it from wavewifi but then if rogue tries to connect again to it, I have to enter that again.

Is there a way to get rogue to remember the WPA phrase and hold it?

Dave, your issue where the ROUGE won't hold the WPA2 AES phrase might be the software revision of your unit.
Can you give me the "rev-x.xx" of your ROGUE so I can check for known software fixes?

Is it me or is Bill way to smart ? Between billy and Boatbum my head hurts

Just saying ...

Rob

Bill,
I will get it to you when I go to boat this weekend.

Rob,
Imagine how much it would hurt if they weren't here!!!

Bill, I'd like to check mine too. Where do I find this information?

Log into the ROGUE, by using either http://192.168.89.1 or http://wavewifi.com this should bring up the GUI or the user interface.
Next look for the Settings tab, open it, the Software revision is located at the lower left corner of this page. It will also give you the current IP/MAC/Netmask/Gateway and DNS settings on the lower right hand corner of the same page.
The same page allows you to toggle the Firewall between on or off.
