Thanks, Brian. We all appreciate the efforts you are putting into this. Hit us all up for $$ when you decide it's time to do so.

Great news and thanks for your efforts to keep this site going. This was one of the first sites I subscribed to when the internet was just getting started. Please let us know how we can help. I will gladly contribute what ever amount we need to continue this site.

Good afternoon ladies and gents...

So, after months of working to try to transition the site as-is we have come to a bit of an impasse...

To make a very long story short using my limited understanding of such things, the site is so antiquated and there are so many unknowns in where it is hosted and how it is constructed that we may be unable to make a seamless transition.

What that means at this point is still to be determined. Worst case, I will take the domain name and start a new forum, keeping it as close as possible to the original.

I will update if I hear anything new...

Nice to hear. Maybe there are some guys that can help "decode" the thing.

I'm open to suggestions, but the problem is at this point Les' wife is still coming out of pocket to keep it going until they can figure out the transition. She is understandably ready to pull the plug and I am becoming more inclined to agree... Unfortunately the company that is hosting is less than helpful...

It's looking more like we'll be going the Boatered 2.0 route...:)

Bummer. i sent you a PM a few mins ago.

Who is the forum software from, snitz forums, or somebody else? Even if we start over, would be nice to import all or the users from current version - but password encryption from 2000 probably won’t work with newer software - so that would be a problem. But other wise, in theory at least, should be possible to export from current database , and transform to new format before importing all of the threads.

Who is your current host? The existing hosts always suck at helping in a transition, but the new hosts are usually pretty good.

Whatever you need to do, I’m sure you will get lots of support. Thanks.

I would think there might be a platform that would port the site over as is. Would a place like GoDaddy migrate it to their servers?

Thanks for the efforts to keep this site alive. Please let us know what we can do to help.

We're here to help! PLEASE ask if/when you need us.
If hiring an expert to straighten out and resolve this, we're willing to support that!

This site is the depository of a treasure trove of information and advice

We need to find a way to save all the historic posts here.

We can all make some sort of monetary donation to see to it.

Alk, I just emailed you...PM is not working...

Guys, thank you! You're all right...we need to do everything possible to save the years of info...we'll keep the fight up and I'll let Elaine know we will re-imburse her, I appreciate the enthusiasm and morale boost...

If anyone has experience with this sort of thing, please shoot me an email at the safety net email I set up... admin@boatered.com

Thanks!

Meanwhile it sounds like we need to up the clicking

I will gladly contribute if needed just let us know when and how much is needed.

Thanks guys, I will keep you posted. All I want to do is keep the site up and running, stabilize it, and reimburse Elaine for her out of pocket costs thus far...

Seems to me that the searchable history of the site has limited value. Les even dropped lot of early history some time ago.

The membership and willingness to answer questions is its current value.

I suggest considering what is currently important before trying to completely replicate the site

How can we contribute to Elaine’s out of pocket expenses?
