SPBM Bill

I'm not a lawyer Todd but I don't think they can change what you owe. I also paid my deposit in the fall. I got a bill then with the slip fee and utilities minus the deposit and the balance due is what I expect to pay in the spring.

Listen people, think what you want. The fact remains they do change what they charge whenever they feel like it. The manager also told me that every boat in the place WILL pay for the LOA next year as per Wayne's orders. (Those are Gee's words not mine.)

They don't give a damn what you have in writing and they will confiscate your boat if you don't pay. Just ask Wayne's cousin Bill Curry where his boat is now. (Don't get me wrong, if you don't pay your bill you deserve what you get but don't think "paid in full" means anything to them.)

MJK, the owner and manager at Patsy's are 2 for the nicest people I have ever meet in the boating services industry. When I had my bow thruster installed I went there to use their yard as per my installer. While it was on land I figured I'd some other work to my boat and needed some things from their store during the week. They were busy with other things and told me to just keep track of what I needed and we would settle up at the end of the week. A small thing but it spoke volumes to me.

I believe they have two biling systems, One is for winter and one is for summer. You need to specify what you are paying for. I paid an additional $500.00 towards my summer bill and have not seen additional charges. Maybe I am missing something but I will check my bill again. I know that you need to pay for summer by April 15th before finance charges started. I think thats the first official day of boating. I could be wrong but that's what I recall.

I do know there were finance charges if you did not pay your winter charges by a certain date. Not sure the date but... That included shrink wrap, storage, and additional work if requested.

I was told by Stewart on Friday that posting of fund to my account would occur on the next business day, hence the payment on your bill may not show this if they print it at the time of payment. I requested a receipt for my payment towards my summer slip. I was provided a written receipt and the marina will provide a new statement on Monday. I have my CC receipt and written receipt. Let's see what happens...

Let the fun begin. This is not looking good for them at all. This is supposed to be a relaxing hobby (lifestyle) not a frustrating nightmare.

The staff at Patsy's is very good. If I knew my boat was going to be buried (was told I wouldn't be) and in the mud pit I would have wintered over there like I used to. Its my fault for being nice. This spring will be interesting.

It's not that I'm not going to pay, I'm going to pay what my balance is on my bill that I recieved when I payed my deposit. If they want to charge LOA next season fine, but everyone I spoke to have bills already I don't think most will put up with a bill change or see how it is legalas long as you have written proof.

The problem is the bill has been based on the honor system when the asked you the size of the boat you go then an answer if the answer is fond to be untrue then they have the right to adjust your bill. I agree with you if they want to change the way they bill it should be clear on this bill that they have the right and are planning on measuring all boats and adjusting the bills. So I'm with you maybe next year. This would give people the option of finding another marina if they are not happy with the method of measuring. I don't think it will make them enough money that it's worth them pissing off so many members but it will be what it will be and nothing I think or say is going to change it.

I agree, they must let people know before handing out bills, they can't change it after the fact. I don't know who started with the LOA but they never said anything to me or alot of other members I talked too.

Look on your contract, whatever it says is what they can do.

I'm not sure how other marina's work, but Haverstraw puts their contract on the back of each years invoice. Unfortunately the print is so small you could'nt read it if you wanted to. It fills the entire backside of an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet, and I can gaurantee you two things. 1. It was written by lawyers and 2. It covers everything you could possibly think of and finds it to the marinas advantage.

I'm willing to bet that all other area marinas follow the same procedure. Dollars to donuts they got you on loa.

When I first got my slip Gene asked to see the boat registration to get the length. I guess he did that with everybody. Seems reasonable. I'll pay my balance due in the spring and see what they say.

When I first came to the marina with my last boat no one ask to see anything they simply ask how big is the boat. This was when Gene was there. When I bought my last boat Wayne was in charge and again no one ask to see anything not even the boat. I told them it was a 44' and that was good enough. The truth is it is a 44' so let them measure it quick before I add 4' of a platform.

It was pretty easy for us, I went in with a new boat and they looked the LOA up on line -- no muss, no fuss. The marina can measure all they want, as the boat's still stock, so it had better come out 38' 3".

I should note that overall I've been quite satisfied with SPBM, it was just the un-itemized bill that set me off -- owning a boat is expensive enough without having anyone (marina, parts supplier, etc) adding charges that can't be backed up.

I just got a call from the office.

The pool is extra. They said it should have been billed all along. I thought that for the full time members the pool access was included.

Is this right? I may be looking to move and not get nickel and dimed for everything.

Thought that was part of the "facility fee" -- at least that's how it was explained to me last year.

If that's the case, they need to update their website, since they had REMOVED the old pool charge. Admittedly they still have the 2009 prices posted, but there is *no* pool charge.

so what do they say is included in the facility fee they charge? (the $155 / $205?)Their website says, and I copy here:
"*facility fees are for dockside power, dockside water and all other amenities on our premises.".

I'd think the pool is a key amenity, wouldn't you?

yes. one of the key reasons for going there and putting up with the low water. Now that the neighboring marina is the same cost and has water I dont know what I am going to do. Also I am up in the air on even putting the boat in the water to begin with and now this stuff.

How many days last summer was your pool unusable due to brokent equipment, not having life guards, or lack of chemicals?

I think the 'other amenities' is the parking lot.
