SPBM

Wayne, this should be in HRCC forum.

Walter, can you move it?

My son complained about the poor management this year, all the lifeguards were annoyed at the management and equipment. If they can't even run a pool, how the hell are they supposed to run a marina.

Glad I'm at PBM, where the owners are hands on and care about each and every customer.

While I don't disagree with Wayne's overall assessment I have to ask, in the short term what is the owner to do about the seaweed and low water? Should he have a crew out pulling the grass? I've def. noticed an influx of local kids on bikes that seem to feel the picnic area is an extension of the bike/skateboard board half pipe at the marina.

On a plus note the bathroom's seem to still be cleaned on a daily basis.

Hogan, are you guys having issues with seaweed at PBM?

Actually, there does seem to be more eel grass this year.

We have alot of grass too this year.
Must be floating down from the Hudson!

I think Wayne posted it here becuase he wanted someone who can read to read it!

I thought up north they didn't call it "eel grass"....its called "salad".

Not to worry, Walter, we're off track already!

John, The jetskiers cannot use there machines at will. I'll bet if the owner was around like last year, he would move the docks, but a boom around the machine docks or something. I'll bet the tables would be clean. I bet the pool would have enough chemicals and not have to use Clorox. It seems that most people were right when they said, just wait and see the marina go down hill after the owner finds other interests.
O well, its all of our dock family that makes up for the Marina's short commings.

Agreed Wayne, I can't take my boat at at will either. Even my dink struggles with the sea grass at low tides.

I hate to say it but we told you so! (And now with no manager it will only get worse) Problem is, people aren't willing to vote with their feet. We left at one time but the "dock family" we left behind was really missed so we came back. We have our share of drama at times but we all seem to pull together when need be.

BTW - what the hell where all those green dots all over your boat?

We moved to SPBM this year and have liked the move allot. yes there are things that need improvement but ALL marinas do. IMO if it weren't for SPBM this year we would be out of boating or a few years out of the water until the kids were older. Met allot of people this summer and have had a bunch good times so far.

Try Haverstraw for example - good water - no grass but walk a mile to the car, 2 toilets for 600 + boats that are disgusting on weekends, staff that dont care, cars getting beat up from the drunks coming out of the bar, nothing for kids to do and allot more money. That is just the surface.

You just got to find what is good for you and what good outweighs the bad.

Every marina has problems, you just have to try to deal with it, we always had a water problem and the grass is from all the rain we've been getting, like John said it;s the people and friends you stay for. And face facts not alot of choices on the hudson and they know it.

Rob, I look at it this way. Nice deep water, come and go as you please...a major asset. A hike from the car to the boat and back, yes, but I consider it exercise for me and not an issue. The bathrooms sometimes get a little overwhelmed, so you go on the boat. Never had a problem with any of our cars as we don't park anywhere near the restaurant/bar. For us, kids are out of the picture so not a concern either. Many good friends and boat neighbors so I don't mind spending the extra money to be there. As your last sentence states, you do what you think is best for you and your family and what suits your boating lifestyle.

I must agree this has been a tough year with the sea grass and gnats things could be maintained better aswell but, I do love the marina. I could not get a slip like mine anywhere else the view is great I get to enjoy it a lot while I'm stuck in my slip waiting for the tides. I have learned to plan well and I have taken to rowing the jetski out to avoid the sea grass I'm still working on a way to return it to the dock I may need a winch at the dock to pull it up (that would really suck) but the people are great.
I think if our issues are brought to the attention of Wayne if you can find him I think he would try his best to make corrections. I have never had an issue with him. Anything I have asked for has been done in a timely manner, I just haven't made any big requests. He wants and needs the marina to do well if He wants to ever sell it. As I read this back I realize it may sound like I'm unhappy but I really like it here. Things can always be better but then what would we complain about the weather?

How about the rocking I was waiting for fuel at Panco on Sunday and watching the boat rocking and rolling. There is no way my wife could spend time at the dock there. I also think your new boat may be a little large for the marina. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to knock PBM I'm sure it's great anyone I speak to seems to love it there. It's just not for me. By the way you new boat has a much deeper draft, mine is 53" how much water do you guys have over there? The pictures look great enjoy.

The small boats over by Panco do rock, rarely do the bigger boats on B dock get rocked. Draft on the new boat is 48", I don't know where you come up with 53".

The boat next to me draws 48", so I will be fine.

John - I have outdrives (another story) so I can can pretty much come and go when I want if I really need to. Don't get me wrong, there are allot of good people at Haverstraw just my boating needs have changed. BTW - I stopped by there a few weeks ago and green dock looked like a ghost town.

Mike, is that the listed draft or did you measure it with the boat out of the water? What I've found is that some manufacturers list a draft for a lightly loaded boat, some list with full fuel and water. My Blackfin is listed as having a 48" draft but I've measured it when blocked up to the usual waterline and it's about 54". The draft is 48" only with a very light fuel and water load, fully loaded for a trip it can be 58".

John
