I have a bow thruster but rarely use it except to play around. It would have been like spitting into the wind in this circumstance. Besides I did not have a hand free. One on the throttles and the other covering my eyes.
I always know when this one particular boat is heading out or coming back in on the next dock over. I've never heard someone lean on a thruster as hard as this guy does. 30-40 seconds at a time with numerous repeats. They can't even make the turn at the end of the dock, a simple 90 degree turn without extended use of the thruster.
I can't imagine what they would do if the thing ever broke or overheated.
There are a couple of them in every marina. There is always one or two that havent a clue in general also. I'm not referring to the new boater either. We had one guy in my old marina that people would stop what they were doing evety time just to watch him dock. It's always fun as long as they arent anywhere near YOUR boat.
They are great to have and come in very handy at times. Especially with a flybridge and high winds. Of course it's best to learn to manage your boat without them and use them as a secondary source of control. Some rely soley on their trusters and this can be a problem. I would like to try Pods next. They seem like a lot of fun.
You haven't experienced a mega yacht with one of these types at the helm. We were at West End in Old Bahama Bay on a T head when a 100 footer came in and started grinding.
The prop wash from the thrusters was shoving our boat around so much we came up wondering WTF was going on. So much for the clear water also. Every bit of debris on the bottom was stirred up. And all he had to do was lay along side the wall!
I have nothing to add, nothing to say. I can't even spell SPBM, the original topic of this thread.
I don't sleep with Bennies no matter how cute he may be.
I just wanted to be a part of history.
We haven't been on topic in 25 pages. Never the less, I will be up there this weekend charging my batteries so I will check it out and let you know. Last time I was up there they had a back hoe on a barge and they were working on G Dock.
Was there today, didn't see any sign of dredging. I had boat fever this morning so i passed by HM and Patsy's and SPBM. all TROJAN boats are safe and sound!!!
