SPBM

Have to say I don't believe anyone was ever asked to leave the marina. Most of the bigger boats are safer than the rest, in the peninsula or on the main docks. Just cant see that happening. I think its all he said she said. Everybody in HM is extra nice. Been talking to Bob a lot and he is very nice and very knowledgable. They hauled my boat out in less than 12 hours notice. Very accommodating always. .

We asked about the gas pumps that disappeared and they said just that...they just disappeared and they had no idea where they are. That was maybe 6 or 8 weeks ago though so maybe that has changed.

The wind was out of the east during Sandy so the pumps would be in the marina west of the fuel dock. They wouldn't go far due to their weight.

The wind started out of the NE, then shifted to the SW as the storm passed.

Yes they did tell the bigger boats to leave. I know one of the owners and he was told before both storms. I also know he said no and stayed. If you think about it during Irene the boat that had the fire spent the storm over in crotton. Also alot did go north as Rommer said.

Isn't there some maritime law about safe harbor cannot be denied? In other words, a marina cannot force you out into a storm?

If these allegations are true, the safe harbor would not apply anyway. Requests were made before any immanent danger. I don't believe anyone is claiming they were turned away in the middle of a storm. The marina has every right to determine what is best for their marina and its customers prior to an event...or any other day for that matter.

Totally agree. Especially when you have 800 boats.

I think they just said no to you Mike, as they know you as one of those rabble rousers drinkin yo moonshine and smokin yo ceeegars! They don't take kindly to yo kind!

No question that they do, just pointing out that not all marinas are the same.

LOL

Mike and Rommer I agree MYC went far above and beyond and should be commended for this! I just don't think it's fair to condemn Haverstraw for doing what they felt was best for everyone. As for the bigger boats, I was under the impression they were asked them to haul out for the storm but this again is hearsay not fact.

If I may conclude, we all love where we currently keep our boats, non of us have anything negative to say about our marinas other then long walk or shallow water :-) Isn't that great?
I was in other marinas where owners yell and make you feel like they are doing you a favor and it doesn't seem like any of us had such experience with any of the marina's in Stoney Point Bay.

Two more months!!

For each of the named Hurricanes we tried to go to Haverstraw and was told no boats 40' or larger would be accepted and they were telling their existing large boat customers to leave. You don't have to believe but it's true. They even know us as we were members there for a few years. The office staff felt bad telling us no and they clearly said it was Wheelers decision.

I'm not saying Wheeler is a bad guy or Haverstraw is a bad marina as that's not the case. I do strongly disagree with the way they handle the named storms and if we ever do decide to move back up river to berth our boat MYC is where we would look to go. I want a place I can count on in good AND bad times.

Are you going to go for a quick swim Allen???? When you came out of the water whoever gave you a towel would really be Delivering Happiness!!!
