Spring Prep

Well, here's an update on my progess so far. I have been hand-sanding everything then compounding then wiping down. This has been a slow, painfull process and I'm quite sure I bit off more than I could chew. I've never been sentenced to hard labor in confinement facility, making little rocks out of big rocks, but, I'm pretty sure my feeling at the end of each day would be similar! I have not used the FinesseIt or wax yet, but, it is looking better. I've now completed both sides from the rub-rail down.

A view from the back -

Getting some color and some shine.

The old boat starting to come around.

I still have to to the polish. Should I use a wool polishing pad or a foam one? I will then re-stripe and wax. I just realized, however, how much work I have to do ABOVE the rub rail! Funny thing, I climbed up in the boat, sat down in the back, and realized that after about 50 hours of work, all effort is practically un-seen from in the boat! Diminishing returns! Of course, a cheap camera really makes things look better than they really are.

Boat is starting to look great Doug.

Ken or Doug, are the waterways in your area open? Are any of the marinas open/have fuel? I got a call about possibly delivering a boat from Sandusky to Milwaukee and am trying to figure out if/when it would work.

They're starting to open up here. Sandusky area should be a little ahead of Cleveland/east. Not sure about Lake St. Clair or Michigan

Wow, Doug, looks great!

The weather up here is improving slowly, still ice on our Bay. We hope to maybe get our shrink off this weekend, can't wait to get started. Your pics are inspiring!

The weather here is nice...starting to see some boat traffic on the river. The LBYC (really, a giant floating tiki-bar with boat slips) opens on the 24th of this month. I'm in a mad dash to get the things that have to be done while it is out of the water. I still have so much to do! That reminds me...I need to see who has fuel this time of year.

I'm about to do the FinesseIt II on the boat. Should I use a foam or wool pad? I've heard both.

Wool it is, then! I sure hope it takes a lot less time than the compounding did!

Guys- Final update for this project. Well, everything from the rub-rail down has been finished (except for re-painting my vents) and I will be putting it in the water. Thanks for all the help and guidance on this project! Though not perfect, the boat looks so much better and as I get bettter and working with the surfaces of the boat, I hope it will continue to improve. I'm droppiing it in the water next week and will start working on items above the rub rail.

Thanks!

Looking great!

Starting today to compound mine...3m Imperial it is!

I'll try to load some before and after shots
