Swim platform completed additional photos

It was my intention to bond each mount to the ground and would be very easy to do, the dive plate ground wire is right there. After speaking to a few people we decided not to. The mount are not in anyway connect to to a conductor so they would pass voltage if I bond them then they will conduct current and I would need to add zincs as well. I will kept an eye on them but I don't expect to have any problems.

That is a personal question but my swim platform is the same size I used his as a template to order mine. The brackets are a copy of what is on his and Starry Nights boats. I'm still getting used to it being there and I must say it is a pleasure having it. I look forward to taking the boat out for a ride and confirming there are no issues such as drag or vibrations but I'm optimistic.

Looks great! However, I'd reconsider bonding those struts to your existing bonding system. Either that, or install sacrifical zincs on each of them independantly...making sure that there is a good electro-mechanical connection to the metal itself...think of your zincs on your trim tabs...same reasoning.

It looks like it will make boarding much easier. So when will the marina whack you for the extra length :D

Did you check all the thru bolts Walter. Chances are it's bonded on the inside where you wouldn't even notice it.
 
As I mentioned earlier, It was my intention to bond the mounts but at the time of the install it was strongly suggested that I don't I was told that bonding them would draw more current through them and that if I boned them I would need to install zincs to protects them or do nothing and keep an eye on them if I see any pitting I will bond and add zincs.

Boatbum as for the additional charge for the slip. I'm not planning on bringing it to their intention nor am I hiding it. If they charge me they charge my it was a consideration before I ordered it and I wont be surprised or upset either way. Most marinas charge LOA I don't get why so many people are upset about this, it is what it is. I have more important things to worry about.
 
Dave, I don't know who told you not to bond the supports, but IMHO, that person has no clue what they are talking about. Why do you think that every other piece of metal is bonded? If it were true, nothing would be bonded.

You spent a lot of money on that platform, why would you risk corrosion?

IMHO, you have been given mis-information.

By connecting the mounts to your existing bonding system, you are in fact installing anode protection (zincs) to them. That big Hull zinc hanging off of your transom is the 'end point' of your boat's existing bonding system.....the least noble sacrifical metal.

Also, what type of antifouling paint did you paint the mounts with? The cuprous oxide in typical bottom paint will 'react' somewhat with the SS mounts as dissimilar metals and hasten any electrolysis....all the more reason to bond or zinc them indiviually.
 
Bonding the mount might take my all of 20 minute it would have been five if done during the install. I will consider doing it after a little more research. Two of the mounts are temps and will be removed at the end of the season so I don't care about them the others I want to protect.

No, but I will check it now because I am curious.
 
I have a backing plate for each mount I can screw into each one for the garage and bond very easily. I may even spring for a bus bar the dive plate ground wire is smack in the middle of the mounts so as I said I didn't skip bonding because it was a PIA just because I was told not to do it. Walter please post after you check I'm curious as well. I think were I might have gone wrong was I should have left a space around the mounts without bottom paint about 1/2 inch to prevent the paint creating continuity to the other bonded through holes. This is what they do on newer outdrives I screwed up it was mentioned I forgot. When I get a chance I want to try to meter the mounting bolts to ground to see if there is any continuity for current to travel.
 
I know some of you mentioned a concern about the platform digging into the water when getting on plane. I was confident this would be a problem based on both Hogan and Starry night not having a problem. I have had so many thing go wrong I figured I better make sure this doesn't become a problem I went out for a ride today and tested and even tried to make the platform drag but the worst I could do was splash water and wash flood it with a quick slow down.

I took a picture while off plane trying to get it to drag.
