THE AFFORDABLE BOAT ACT

Can someone please answer a simple question for me?

A US citizen chooses not to buy health insurance.

That person gets seriously sick or injured and goes to a local hospital and gets treated.

He is discharged, and gets his bill for treatment.

He almost has a relapse, and calls some shyster bankruptcy lawyer whose ad he just saw on TV.

The lawyer fixes him up with a medical bankruptcy.

The hospital eats the bill. If it is a public hospital, the taxpayers pay for his medical care.

If it is a for-profit hospital, the patrons that can afford their medical care there are charged more, so the hospital can maintain its profit margin.

So the question is, why are some people so supportive of freeloaders, the people that figure that they don't need health insurance when emergency rooms will take care of them for free?

What ever happened to the need for personal responsibility?

Why is it ok for these people to foist off their medical bills on taxpayers, when they could afford medical insurance.

It seems that the same people that are against the individual mandate would be livid if their car or boat was hit by an uninsured driver, would they not?

Just because the bills that the uninsured run up are not taken directly out of your pocket does not mean that you are not paying for their care.

You and I are paying the medical bills of people choosing not to buy health insurance, and I'm tired of these freeloaders getting away with it.

Aren't you?

First and foremost is the hospital doesn't have to treat you unless I believe it is life threatening at the time as they can tell you to suck salt.

It seems that the same people that are against the individual mandate would be livid if their car or boat was hit by an uninsured driver, would they not?

I CHOOSE to have and purchase ins for these items because I WANT to, not because I HAVE to or pay an additional ENTITLEMENT fee for. Not unlike big brother telling me I must have car ins or no registration. I do it just to cover my a**.

What ever happened to the need for personal responsibility?

The Government said they know better than those that have survived PAYING their bills responsibly so you get to SUBSIDIZE all the slackers and future Illegals with higher rates and coverage you don't need. (unless your going to need maternity and breast exams as well as BC as a male)

Whoever dreamed up this fiasco with the 27-35 age group to pay for this, I'm still waiting to see how many think they need coverage and will buy into this scheme at the inflated prices for their age group and just pay the fine or stop filing. No paper No fine. Cash business is going to make a big comeback.

Welcome to the USSA

First of all, you are damn sure paying for them now with all the higher premiums plus some on top for the government's skim. Who do you think is going to pay for the ones who opt out & pay the fine?
And yes, I'm tired of the freeloaders, every where in our socialistic society. It's gonna get worse so get ready.

Going bust, as in filing Bankruptcy, costs you. There are some serious consequences after Chapter 11 AND you have to pay Legal Boy for the privilege of humping your creditors, the same good guys that lent you money or services with the expectation of being paid back.

Dirtbags do it and they deserve the consequences.

Marcel, I am also tired of the scenario that you presented. But, ACA does not address it. It attempts to, but falls well short. It just makes a tolerable situation into a terrible situation.

I say again: Tort Reform, govt subsidized mediacal training for physicians, wide-open no boundary insurance sales....this is the basis for any rational "fix" to the problem.
Special provision for pre-existing applicants---a potentially costly but socially desirable provision that would have to be very carefully designed and monitored---outside in the full sunshine for all to see and understand.

We need to get out of the equal medical treatment for all regardless of ability to pay. If there is no better care for people who can pay either directly or with insurance there is no incentive to be responsible. I could support some basic services provided by the government for those that can't or wouldn't pay with better treatment reserved for those who can pay. Doctors would need to be indemnified so that as long as the treatment wasn't negligent they are protected from not doing everything possible for those who aren't paying, X-rays instead of MRI and CAT scans etc.

Looks like there is a real basis for effective reform within this forum. Wonder why the people in the Senate and Houe can't see the forest for the trees ?

Again, how is this boating related. I do not feel a this forum should be getting in to politics.

Stop opening this thread and/or commenting on it then.

You appear to be out voted.

petesl,
Look at Bill's RO#26 and your's is 25291, do you really think he gives a sh*t what you think. He's probably earned his keep with the 15,000 + posts he has made. Kinda makes your 39 look pale. How can we ever thank you enough for your contribution to this forum?

Seriously? That is the best you can do?
"nah, nah, his RO# number is lower than yours!"

What's next, you're going to call his mother fat?

But I do hope people like Bill with a low RO# would not only care what newer members opinions are but give them some thoughtful consideration. It's one good way to keep this place growing with new members and the "gene pool" of ideas, experiences and information contained in it broad and healthy.

But what do I know. My RO# is after all 1991 higher than Bills. But then again, it is 13,310 lower than yours. :-)

funny, but I think the correct term is "na na na na naa" <G>

sadly I think the forum is shrinking - perhaps due to these types of threads

I believe the OP post was in jest and funny, but it spirals from there

Clearly boating season is over for some, so the winter doldrums set in, even in autumn. No "libtards" biting in NBR, so trolling in ATC.

Predictable as the seasons...

cooking up some nice salmon tonight (wonder if they were caught by trolling)

Well, I'm not completely ignoring this, since I posted, but I'm not getting fired up about it, either. Capt Bill 1 pretty well summarized the cycle.

Yeah, weather up here was high 70s and quite pleasant. Was in Sacramento on Monday for a surgical procedure that had to be postponed, so we made the best of it and had lunch at Crawdads on the Sacramento River. Beautiful day, sat on the deck and watched the river...and a few boats...roll on by.

Tomorrow is another day: Classes in the morning, tooth extraction and bone graft in the early afternoon, Norco in the late afternoon. Pretty sure I won't be too riled up tomorrow, either.

Speedo, where are all the libtards hiding?

Not sure, Harlan, but I suspect they're hiding with the Retardicans...somewhere in NBR...where they belong! <G>

This comment caught my eye :

I couldn't agree more.

B U T the quality of commentary, the evidence of some "new truth" and willingness to participate in coming to some reasonable end point are all signs of a healthy forum.

In this instance the kickoff point was advertised as being satire, designed to be of interest to the entire community. The whole schmeer took a bit of time to work out. Perhaps it was too long. Long ago I learned that one can't please everyone all the time. But on balance I believe that it contributed to the site and apparently several folk thought it to be worthy of the bandwidth.

Contrast my effort to the very short negative post that claimed misplacement of ideas.

Most folks here will recognize the tendency of a few posters to want to take their toys in hands, leave the sandbox and go home. I don't find much fun in such behavior.
