This has to be the longest winter ever

I have insurance through a Long Island broker who specializes in boats. He originally had me with Zurich, and when they stopped writing marine insurance he put me with ACE at an even lower rate. The value of my boat is a fraction of what some of you guys insure for, but I am more concerned about liability. I did check BOAT US about 6 years ago, and again when I got the notice that Zurich was no longer writing boats. Both times they were significantly higher percentage wise than the prices I got from the broker.

Another brutal February day with another right behind it.

Just saying,

Billy K.

ACE is a great company. They paid a $17,000 claim of mine with no trouble at all.

Whats the agreed value?, assume 1% deductible?

Ugh yes rain rain rain.
I had to pacify myself by putting together my new outdrive installer. An upgrade from the wooden cart I built some years ago....
If anyone wants one, google stumpyfabworks. Nice design, can also be used as a work stand.

I have Travelers now and after reading about how slow they are at paying i spoke to NBOA. Dave is right, they are very helpful and had great quotes. NBOA is a broker and they cover Travelers and were not down on them. They are higher but I was told they are one of the few who still cover mechanical failure. So even though I hate my current broker and I don't like what I am hearing about how long Travelers takes to pay I have not made any changes yet - I prefer to have some kind of mechanical coverage. Currently paying about 1800 for 400K agreed value. Will see what happens on the next premium.

How does mechanical coverage work? What does it cover? Are you sure it would pay?
I am still in warranty till next year but then I might be interested in adding mechanical coverage.

I don't understand how Travelers pricing varies so much for similar coverage?
Example:
I am insured for 345k and as stated pay around 1900.00 a year.
Rob is insured for 365k and pays 1 k more than me
Then Vic has "mechanical" coverage and pays 100 less than me for 400k in coverage?

I can see the reasoning for large variations if you put in a lot of claims that were caused by yourself (hitting another boat, running aground, etc). In my case, I only had one claim (20 years ago) in 30 years of boating. Getting whacked by Sandy should not be a reason to raise an individuals rate IMHO. Sure, a rate increase all across the board.

Walt,
Actual bill came for insurance 3345.00
Im kinda stuck till boats repaired.

Also need to look at claims.
Rob, isn't this your like third claim with that boat?

Insurance rates vary by credit score, auto driving record, previous claims, boating courses and experience, boat, boating location and usage, age of primary driver, marina used for season and winter storage, and, of course, the 'unknowable'. For our previous boat, a 24' Chaparral, BoatUS was the most expensive; for our present boat, a 33' Cruisers, BoatUS was among the cheapest. I can't figure it out so I gave up trying. Hopefully, most of us will never have to deal with another superstorm such as Sandy. Have a good season. Hy

Hey now.... My electronics were STOLEN last year. My only claim besides this sir.

I sure rather have had my old electronics back . The new RAYJUNK has nice features but its still JUNK!

Ok so 2 claims, but I am sure that counts though maybe not.

When I re-insured the broker gave me the same company that paid me off.
I was suprised and when I asked they said a Total Loss is not held against you as the insuree.
So it seems some claims are, so just saying.

I cant complain. TRavelers is doing the right thing. Just took a long time. Once its all done ill see what prices are.
