Trojan 440 Upgrades, Fixes and Ideas

Allen, my holes through to the mid section had pvc epoxied into them so I knew the water did not come from there. I did relocate my pump in the mid section much as you did and it takes care of the rain water that comes in.

Odvar, if you do as Allen did our use PVC as they did with mine and epoxy it in place I think you can eliminate that cause.

When you say the water comes in from the port side through hole, did you mean through hull? I do get water in the rear bilge from rain, not a lot but enough to make it messy. I plan to put a weather strip on there sometime soon. I have the material now just need to find time to do it. I am finally getting a chance to use the boat so the little projects are taking a back seat for a while.

I get very little water in the lazarette from rain. in the beams there used to be "through hols that were hollow. once water goes in instead of draining to the main bottom bilge it will go through the beam forward. i run a 2 inch hose though it so now it all drain into the main bilge in the lazarette.
in my mid saloon bilge there is a through hole on the port side and water are dripping from there into the bilge. I must say much less than it used to be even early in the season. i am not sure what changed.

I always have water in the lazarette I'm not sure where it is coming from I don't believe it is rain water. It seems to only happen when I use the boat. I think it comes in the seal when I slow down. Sometimes I watch my camera as I slow down to make sure I don't slow down too fast to take on even more water. Last year I had my rudder housing pulling and repaired, All mounting hardware was replaced and sealed the bearings are all new there is no reason I should be getting water thru them. I would think if my strut mounts were loose it would leak at dock but I never get any water at dock. If I pump and vacuum it dry it stays dry until I go out again.

I have water leaking from my port lazarette into the center one. It appears to be fresh water, but the pump is not cycling. I'm going to have to pull my galley apart to try to find where it's coming from.

Allen, are you talking about the hole where your shower sump and water pump is located? In the port stateroom? I occasionally get water in there as well although I have no idea where it comes from either. If you figure it out, let me know.

Dave, I remembered what you said about water coming into the lazerette that way. My gasket there is not doing much of anything to keep water out. This weekend I had my wife watch as I came off plane to see if water was coming that far up and she said it did not appear to. Keep in mind I have no swim platform. Does your platform get swamped when you come off plane?

Yes I have a camera so I can watch the water come right out the platform and then it is just at the right height to go in thru that bad seal. I really need to replace the gasket I know somewhere in this thread Starry posted what he used I'm going to have to find that.

Dave. I already have the gasket and believe I got it on amazon. I will look tonight and post an edit if I find it.

I can see how that would happen if you are flooding your swim platform like that.

One of these day I will download a video clip from my DVR and send it to you so. Ou can see what happens.

This area is the driest location on my boat. yesterday was my 3rd anniversary with my boat and my wife didn't buy me anything!!!

Well, I found out where the latest water was coming from in that bilge. Wife was taking a shower yesterday and I was outside. I realized no water being discharge. Sure enough sump pump float was stuck. Fixed it and no more bilge water the rest if the weekend.

This weekend was the last weekend we will be out on the boat. I winterize and haul next Friday. Then it goes into storage until I figure out her to get her to CA. :(

Sounds like a great trip:)
I started to prepare for the unthinkable as well. I did an oil change yesterday.

Allen. I guess I would be keeping it if it does not sell. The price is not going any lower. I also can not see letting it sit in dry dock for more than a year. The only actual offer I have had so far was two people that were fishing. One wanted me to carry the note and the other offered $75k. Neither is going to happen. I figure that if I look for a trucking company shipping a truck east I may be able to get a big discount hitching a ride back. Just have to be flexible with the when. Regular pricing looks like all in would cost about $20k. I guess we do what we have to do. :)

Yes, that's a long Shlep from Baltimore to CA. Mine was much shorter and cost $6500. I would not recommend the company I used. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

Trucking cost for mine from Ft. Meyers was $7500. Add in a couple thousand to take off arch & windshield, and then put them back. If you are serious, go on U-Ship and see what prices they give you.

I did do that before I list, led it for sale. I got a range from $16k -20k. Once I am out there I'm going to contact trucking companies in t he SF area that ship boats to the east coast and back pack a ride back. It can cut the cost 30-40% as none of them want an empty truck heading back. It just means I have to wait a little longer and be flexible with the move dates.

I will be checking on her weekly or so while she is on the hard.

be VERY careful with the company you go, make sure to get references. there are plenty of amateur's out there and plenty of "companies" that are no more than a driver husband and a wife dispatcher. I went on U ship and got rates from people that scared the crap out of me, also very unprofessional.

Thanks Kurt. She goes up today. I should be over there this morning in a couple hours. Haul is at two. Sort of bittersweet. I plan to leave the canvas up for another month or so since it is still for sale. Probable have it shrink wrapped the middle of November.

Allen, when I did u-ship earlier this year I had the same experience with them. Some of the folks that contacted me said there 1 ton pup icky up could handle it no problem. Some I had to just straight hang up on. At least if I am going to get someone out of the local area I can go to their place of business and see what they intend to use.

We missed you, John. We got to the boat about 1:30. I'm planning on taking the satellite dish out of Greg's garage on Sunday when we get back. I'll store it at my office and get it listed on eBay and/or Craigslist for you.
