UPDATED: We May Lose DB&W!

I don't suppose Schwarzenegger's plan to ax DB&W includes a reduction in the boating fuel tax.
 
Nope, he wants to raise taxes.....not sure if the boating fuel tax is on his list.....
 
I composed my email in .txt and then cut & pasted it into the online forms for each rep and sen as well as the gov. Took me 15 minutes total!
 
Don't blame me. I didn't vote for him. He's not even a lawyer and a bad actor. Doesn't even act & recite his lines well......As I can remember,I think is was in the mid 70's I worked the Cow Palace, San Mateo & Palo Alto, collecting signitures to stop the Perfical Canal back then.....
Also---I know the sales person that wrote the lease for the State of California's Gulf Stream (Arnold's Jet)> It cost $173,000/month (aircraft only), this excludes fuel, crew, maintenace etc. I estimate the total cost to be about $500,000/month.

I do not blame Arnold for this action; I blame the folks at Parks & Rec who have been lobbying to get their hands on the DBW funds for years before Arnold came on the scene. He is listening to those who are advising him. I guess DP&R have better lobbyists then DBW. That is why they need our help via an email/snail mail campaign!

I'd rather we focus on changing his mind instead of bashing anyone.

BTW, Arnold accepts no salary and it is my understanding his transportation [th] are owned by Arnold and not charged back to the state. State probably owns a Gulf Stream, but Arnold does not use it.

I know this for a fact have been to Sacramento Exc. many times the know the mechanic that maintaint the Gulfstreamn. I have been in aviantion almost 40 years.

Out of ignorance, exactly why would I miss having the DB&W? I am not trying to be contentious, just trying to remember what they do. No offense intended....
 
I know for a fact that Arnold has shares through a fractional company called NetJets. He owns shares (1/4 - 3/4 share is typical) in two jets, possibly 3 by now. He flies on his own fractionally-owned aircraft at his own expense while conducting state business. While he is onboard, support personnel refer to the aircraft informally as "California One." When he arrives in Sacramento, he arrives at Sacramento International and is met by a motorcade of CHP and SUV limos. I know this because they position the CHP motorcade next to my office at SMF airport while waiting for the Gov to arrive. I just watched him arrive Monday, as a matter of fact. BTW, he accepts no paycheck for his work.

I have seen the Gov at other airports in the course of my job and have held conversations with his pilots. They are pilots with NetJets (aka Executive Jet) and not under state employment. No pilots are 'assigned' to fly him around. The pilots rotate depending upon the scheduling demands at the time.

I am not aware of any Gulfstream aircraft owned and operated by the State of California, but I don't mean to imply it doesn't exist. Another Toy, can you provide us with specifics on the model and N number of the aircraft? Is it based at Sac Executive airport? What state department operates it? Does it provide suppport for missions other than the transportation of the governor? Interesting stuff...

No offense taken! I received an email fro Boat US today which in parts says,

"Governor Schwarzenegger has proposed to close the CA Dept. of Boating and Waterways (DBW) to save $600,000 a year. But DBW is funded solely by your boater fuel tax dollars, registration fees, and interest payments on infrastructure loans - it doesn't take General Fund dollars - and its work helps boating be safer, and more accessible. We urge you to send the Governor and your state legislators an email, help them learn the value of DBW, and ask that they leave DBW intact."

"3. DBW invests in boating infrastructure - docks, ramps, and marinas in a revolving fund that pays itself back (with interest!).

4. DBW ensures safe boating by supporting local law enforcement agencies, and boating safety education."

I hope this helps....... **bolding is mine.
 
We seem to go through this battle every year or so. I hope we never lose DBW into DPR.
 
I wrote to the Govenator or should I say the Terminator. All I got back was a TS form letter. I think he has made up his mind to grab those DBW funds.
And the "Blue Ribbon" Committee that released the recent Delta Study recommends that he let the islands in the Central Delta Flood (i.e. do not repair on the map)
Too bad, CA used to be a nice place to boat...
 
Don't worry what the form letter says. Wait to see what is actually in the budget when it gets done! No sense worrying about what might not happen.
 
Well, I guess next week we find out if our campaign succeeded once again---or not!
