Volvo Penta XDP Service Bulletin - Bellows

Thanks for posting the part numbers ... For my own peace of mind, I just checked the work order from my bellows replacement and thank God, they are the latest version, bellows kit 21277185.

Here's an update...
I have the NEW design on my boat. These have been on my boat since June 2008 and now I have 128 hours on them since the bellows/shafts/gimbals/etc were replaced. I'm not very happy.

Did I mention that his is a FRESH water boat?

Well I now have the Ver 3 on my drives and have been in the water for 2 weeks.

Stay tuned . . .

BoatUS has written an article called "Volvo Bellows Failures Vex Owners". It's in their Aug/Sept 2010 issue. The article doesn't mention the 5.0 OSi motors that have the XDP drives but this article was made to be a stepping stone to help out the consumer with this problem. We (XDP owners) need to read this article and then submit an email to the email that's listed in the article - if you haven't done so already.

Volvo bulletins are BS as I have the 5.0's and have had multiple failures. I hope Volvo goes out of business.

I have twin 4.3L XDP-Bs on an 08 Regal, purchased in Aug09. My drive S/Ns are higher than the S/Ns listed on the first service bulletin which I assume means they were shipped with the first (bad) upgrade. I had seen some of this information, so I asked the dealer if they had installed the latest bellows. They told me they did, but I never saw any paperwork. Is there a way to check the part numbers on the bellows?

Dealer said they checked the drives at 20hr checkup and all looked good. Would the 20hr checkup ordinarily involve removing bellows to examine the linkage? Given the stories here (and other forums) I'm getting real nervous about this.

What is the email address we should respond to?

It's in the latest issue of Boat US magazine, unfortunately that's in my office - which I won't be in until next week.

I haven't heard jack squat.
On the plus side, when I pulled my drives in September the bellows (and u-joints) were in great shape. So I think that the Version 3 bellows did the trick!

Time to knock the dust off of this thread. So any of our southern boaters with the XDP drives still doing good? Like I said above, I'm happy that the XDP drives (now that they are fixed) and the Ver 3 bellows look good and are working. I'll be putting the drives back on and (hopefully) going "props wet" in 4 weeks!
