summer of 06, ummm then 07 .... umm now I guess until the state stops paying for extras,,,,

Why stop milking the golden goose ???

What does it matter by the time there done the channel east of the bride wont exist. Can it get any narrower ?

And can we get the MFING fishing guys the hell out of the rb2@gr5t##$%#rb2@gr5t channel....

Come on WTF... sunday afternoon these aholes are right in the middle of the 20 wide channel at dead low tide... WHERE my going ???

NO WHERE ... im back on the south shore 3 hrs and i want to turn and go back.... PEOPLE SUCK!!!

k i feel better....

Rob

Rob...... Tell us how you really feel !!! Don't hold back.......

Rob
If you cruise through the S entrance rather than the N you will not have to cut across all the fishermen. I rarely see them that far South.

Rob,
Dave and I went to Freeport for lunch on Saturday and went under the third bridge. I hear you loud and clear about the fisherman.

"WHERE my going ???"
As close as you can get to them at a speed that throws the most wake, that will teach them.

Walter

Gee, and I was thinking about moving south if I can't get my slip renewed.

wtf with the coast guard? I see them racing here racing there ... pulling over jet ski's... not once have I seen them doing any homeland security around the bridges of the wantagh and meadowbrook!!! Never mind getting these aholes off the channel markers that they use as there own personal anchors....

Mark, it's really not that bad, just don't go too far west where you need to go through the state channel to get everywhere!

Rob, maybe you should use your slip at the Anchorage next year, would be a lot less aggravation. The once or twice a year I go to Freeport I'm glad I don't have to do that trip every weekend.

I rarely wander west of Tobay. Too much congestion, and too many 5MPH zones.
If you stay east of Tobay or Massapequa on the South Shore you should be fine.

Agreed. We are Tobay people too and plenty to do east of Tobay and Massapequa. Unless of course you want to wow some boat guests and take them to Freeport for fun.

Guys ,
be very careful going tru the draw bridge. The netting has come loose from the underside and appears to be tearing anchor lights off by the dozen.

Also i read in the paper there tearing the bridge down starting in january ?

I dont see the new bridge being done in time .

So next year there will be no east west travel unser the wantagh as I see it

Rob

Good call on the netting Rob, is that a new problem they are having over there, I was just through there last week on the southernmost entrance with no problem.
If they do close that whole area off you can still head N to the Goose Creek Bridge and through it to head to the SBC Zachs etc.
Enjoy

Rob, I hit the netting yesterday... Luckily no damage... But it's not just the netting, there's a big metal hook in there that I didn't see until the last second. On the way back from Liberty Landing I decided to go through Jones Inlet for a change. First I wasn't expecting to see the Meadowbrook bridge work, that was a pretty narrow section to get through. Then I get to the Goose Creek drawbridge and there's the netting... At first I thought I had room to stick to the south side of it, but then as I got closer I was afraid if I went too far over I'd hit the bridge itself since the clearance is a lot lower at the side. I had the current behind me so not a whole lot of control as I went under, and the net hit my top pretty hard. I saw the hook also but too late to do anything at that point. Got through and checked everything out, a couple marks on one of my front strataglass panels but that came off no problem with the cleaner when I got home. So luckily no issues for me, but i wouldn't go through there with a flybridge boat again until they have that fixed.

Harris, Goose Creek is the one they are supposed to tear down starting in January.

I know them as the first, second, and third Wantagh bridges. The first is the northern most one, second is the middle, and the third is the southern most bridge.
Which is the one with the low hanging netting?
I don't have a fly bridge, but would like to pass the warning along to someone I know who does.
Thanks.

JohnC,

I'm planning on going to the boat show at Liberty Landing Saturday. It's the first time I'll be making that trip. How long of a run do you estimae from the East Rockaway inlet. I cruise at 28 MPH.

Also, anything I should be prepared for besides the big ships?

Rob

The one with the netting is the second one, which is the drawbridge (Goose Creek).

Rob,
Go out jones Inlet... to many 5 mph areas in reynolds.

Its maybe an hr 15 mins run time

Nice ride on a good day... cake walk..

Rob

Rob from where we are go out inlet East Rockaway, the run time is correct from there.

Are you spending the night?

Rob,

Liberty Landing is not taking transients for the duration of the boat show. Do you have arrangements to stay there? Sunday was the last day for transients until after the show, I asked to stay a little past checkout time and they said until 2 was okay, but the show boats were already coming in and one of the dealers asked how long till I left because they had boats on the way for that section so we left a little earlier. Even a lot of the regulars who keep their boats there full time had to move.

If you are going from East Rockaway inlet you can probably do the trip in about an hour, maybe a little longer if you go fast the whole way. Although it's nice to slow down and enjoy the view once you get into the harbor. Helps spot debris too, although I saw very little on this trip. It took me 3.5 hours to get there from Lindenhurst. Going I went out FI inlet which takes me almost an hour to the inlet, then probably an hour down the beach to where you are starting from so based on that about 1.5 hours for you. I was running about 23 knots but slowed down part of the way.

John

I did a google ... bridge deck looks almost complete.... anyone know real status ?
