Yup D dock is filling up and a lot of empty boats today. What a day, this is a 10. Oh that is what I am hearing

how are the rest of the docks looking for us smaller guys.. im planning on coming over Thursday evening. A,B,C are fine for me, as long as I can plug in

Am I a hoarder?
I never liked the 'hoarding' either but was just looking at the WH marina regulations online and it doesn't seem to actually prohibit it. At one point I'm pretty sure the rules specifically said someone needed to be on the boat at night.

I hear what your saying and agree, but in defense of WH, those that want to pay during the week while the boat is unattended brings revenue that would not be there.
I mention this because it is a challenging time and WH is weathering the storm. I certainly and I am sure you don't want this place to go south.
Personally, I see every year at WH, improved, pretty good thing IMHO when the rest of the marine industry is in the crapper.

Back from a great weekend there, no more hearing about it ;-). And I agree, that if they can make the bucks with a reasonable program, I am ok with it. There is no real simple way to please everyone. Yes I know, my boat and others are not the size that creates the concerns about hording, but it seems fair enough. They just need to create more larger slips like what I thought they were doing with the days slips.
I love some of the new rates, including extended Sunday's with a brunch and also the hour rate.

I used to get annoyed at the 'hoarders' but from the marina's perspective that's revenue coming in from otherwise empty slips so it's not really that surprising that they would have changed the rules to not specifically prohibit it. As long as it doesn't end up in a situation where boats sit there all summer and not move...
In general as far as D dock slips are concerned once I bought the bigger boat with the 14'5" beam I realized going there spur of the moment on a Friday night for a summer weekend wasn't going to work most of the time... So now I plan ahead, make Watch Hill a long weekend destination and take the Friday off and sometimes the Thursday too. I actually end up spending more time there this way and it works out fine. I stick to places I can reserve slips or anchor out for July 4th and Labor Day. I never even attempted to get into Watch Hill those weekends.

We've never been to WH, or FI for that matter, but everyone tells us it's a great place. Would we be on D dock with a 34' Carver with 12' beam (new to us as of last summer)? Also we use a standard 30amp shore power cable; any converter needed?
With a 12' beam you have quite a few options. It's once you start getting into the 13 or 14' range and above that you're mostly limited to D dock. You will need an adapter for your shorepower, I'm sure someone will post the link to the adapter, I forget exactly what it is since I have 50amp and use one of the handful of slips setup for that. They do have some there for rental also if needed.
The concessionaire is there to make money. I have no issue with it . I just dont see how people can leave there boats unattended.

The park service being the narrow minded GOV'T bureaucracy thinks larger boats will muscle out smaller boats and hence limit use to one portion of society. Never mind the slips that sit empty limiting the revenue to both the concessionaire and the park service. So the large boats leave and smaller slips remain unused. or worst case scenario large boats end up on the day slips and run there gen-sets all day destroying the CARBON foot print that the park service to such high regard. Its really silly. Small boats do indeed fit in larger slips... the other way doesnt work so much.

The adapter is the Marinco 110A for a single 30 amp leg and marinco 152ay for 2 30 amp legs.
The shore power side is a 50amp 125v male plug that you need. Do not get the 250v, that is wrong.

For me WH is really only viable on the two FOWH weekends when I can reserve in advance. With the distance and inlet conditions to contend with, it isn't worth the planning and hassle any other time. Completely agree with the marina getting as much money as they can so I can't complain about the hoarders.
Rob, have a great trip east and a great summer. We're off to AC next week for a rendezvous and that looks like the biggest trip of the year for us. We may do WHB with Walter on Labor Day WE. Probably meet up and follow him out depending on who is leading. You know how that story goes.

As one of the so called hoarders, I won't send you a nasty gram, pal. I guess given the choice between my wife bringing the boat over on Monday by herself and me bringing the boat over on Friday and leaving it there for Saturday....I'll pick the latter. July 4th weekend winds up costing $1000 for most of us on D dock doing it this way, but it's worth every penny. As for leaving the boat alone, my boat is unattended most of the time at my own marina so I don't see that as much of an issue. Anyway, have fun out east, hope to catch up with you and Brian in August when we head out. I'll let you know our plans.

seems like the best solution would be to run eletric all the way down A dock, and move the garbage further out ( that building stinks ). i thought there were plans to run the eletric last year? im going to head over after work and try to get a slip.. wish me luck. and for those who are willing to pay for their boats to stay unattended that's OK with me.. the facility needs to collect enough $$ to keep it running.
