When will you uncover

Well his wife and kids are always invited to come to my boat.

Mike, you would want to hope I was in earlier than that. How will you use your blender to make drinks if you are not plugged into my boat? How will you feed Gina all the clams and seabass? We all know, if Gina is not happy, you are not happy. But I guess if it is going to be July, then it is going to be July. Have a great spring.

Warren, I would LOVE to see you in the water in April, but I can't override your instructions to Steve to hold you out until July. You are always welcome on our boat.

I spent the afternoon at the marina, but the cover is still on the boat. It just was not warm enough to be able to stretch the eisenglass to cover the cockpit.

Maybe over the weekend...

However Mike failed to say.....My cover is off!

Sorry Todd, but trying to stretch canvas and isenglass in cold weather is beyond my capabilities. I need some heat to do it...

I'm still trying to figure out why Warren tried to hide when I went in Steve's office today...

I got a disturbing call today the guy who I hired to sand the bottom of my boat call to tell me that he could not do would he said he could and that I need to come and talk to him tomorrow to figure out what to do. He said that the boat paint wasn't sticking to the gel coat and that he would have to strip the whole bottom not just sand and prep. If I had had known this I would have had it soda blasted. Can anyone recommend someone at a reasonable price. I got one price that was out of control high.
Now I may not be uncovering tomorrow.

Audrey, sorry, I have no answers other than to seek the advice of the more seasoned HRCCers, including HOGAN, rommer, Robyns Nest, Al Prisco and more. These guys know there stuff!

My boat was wrapped in the clear stuff with no door. I liked that method because, well, frankly, it was too cold to go aboard anyway. Me thinks I should poke a slice in her this weekend and check the status.

Good Luck to all of the HRCCers who do the same and more!!

Not an expert in this area but couldn't you just sand and spot barrier coat the bare spots, roll on some epoxycop ablative and work on a soda blast plan for next year? Or are things really bad?

I would not uncover until you resolve your bottom issues.

Meet with him to see what he is talking about.

If the paint is just falling off your boat, it should all be removed, the bottom should be sanded/blasted and then solvent cleaned twice or three times, and painted with 3 coats of ablative paint. The first coat a contrasting color.

Ask him for a price.

Soda/sand blasting is a process that will require you to fill in all the voids that they will find during the blasting. Getting a guy to come to Stony Point on short notice isn't so easy, you have to jump on that soon.

OR you can patch it up and deal with it next year.

I tried to sand it myself I even went out and bought a heavy duty sander I no where fast. I hired someone who said he could handle it but once he started he found the same thing I did. he more I sanded the more the paint around that area chipped off never leaving a smooth finish I think it needs to be striped. I guess I'll hear him out in the morning. I'm just Pissed because I was told they what be done tomorrow night and I could uncover on Sunday. Now it's the waiting game. I have to many other projects to wait.

If it is falling off that easily, bring a paint scraper and see if that takes it off. Get it down to bare fiberglass, sand it, and then barrier coat it. If you do it right this year, you won't have to worry about it for many years to come.

Work on your other projects while you are waiting for the bottom to be finished.

I tried the scrapper route it didn't work very well that's why I gave up. The other projects require pulling the cover and I'm not sure I want to do that until the bottom is at least prepped as not to get the mess all over the boat.
Anyone I'm heading up there in a few minutes to hear what they have to say. May guess is they just feel its more work then the bargained for and want more money.
I'll know soon enough.
Hogan I think I read somewhere you had you boat done for about $1000 who did you use? Are they still around. Or did you say you would have gladly pay $1000 for the work that you and you sons did.

My two sons and I did it last year, over the course of about 6 weekends. I said that I would gladly have paid someone else $1000 to do the job for me.

It's a dirty, messy, tedious job. But I had at least 12 years of paint build up on the bottom and needed to get it all off and start fresh.

Good luck with it.

You'll be lucky to get any bottom job that includes barrier coating prior to painting for a 1000 bucks!! If you are in a 44 footer 1000$ MIGHT cover the cost of the paint alone! Some paints are 300 bucks a gallon now, and in a 44 I'm thinking you are good for about 2.5 gallons. We use Micron CSC. At this point merely prepping the bottom could cost that much. I currently have two estimates that run around 1500 bucks to pressure wash, minor sanding and scraping, and paint with materials included. This is for a 1 coat job on bottom paint that is in pretty good shape.

I wasn't expecting to get paint at that price. but I just agreed to pay twice the original price to have all the paint removed down to the gel coat. For an additional $200 he agreed to paint as well. The paint cost is about $1200. This boating stuff is getting expensive. I just hope it comes out good and holds up. I'm putting three coats of barrier coat than one coat of hard blue and two coats of black top coat all Petite and I printed out rebate coupons for another thread. When the check comes I can stock the cooler.

Hey Dave

It's OK to cheap out on the paint but
Never cheap out on filling the cooler!!!!

I know you were in touch with victoria marie but he did the same project last season, he may have some ideas and cost for paints and labor.
