guys, I apologize for any issues created with this post was meant as a rant on a very frustrating experience. let's all get along and put our resources together for something good like an licc boatered raft up or something?

Rob, Not sure what was posted here after my last response apologizing to boatcrazy. But I guess it was not pretty since my posts were deleted. i guess I was out of line if my post was deleted. I do apologize to anyone I may have insulted. I guess growing up a Jewish guy in a predominantly Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, i have become desensitized to this type of discussion. Now that I understand this is a sensitive topic for some folks on LICC, I will refrain from this type of humor.
 
I guess if you don't click on a thread for a few days you miss a lot. Hope all is well and back to normal. This forum is a great resource for local information, conditions, referrals, etc..
One big problem with forums, text messages, emails, and other forms of electronic communication is that sometimes the lack of subtle expression that is present in verbal exchanges is missing and things can easily be taken out of context.

Dave, while i was trying to be funny and did not mean to offend anyone, I really wanted to understand why some idiot would call someone that on the water.
 
I grew up on Huntington Harbor in the sixty's. My father and grandfather bitched and complained about people who didn't know their ass from their elbow all the time. I think people used to actually drink and boat more then, than they do now. It seemed like every weekend coming to and from Lloyd's Harbor there was someone on the rocks, on the beach at low tide or doing something stupid in the inlets.
In 67 or 68 we were sailing with a very strong s/e wind from Port Jefferson to Greenport. As we came around Plum Gut we had to drop the sails and start the motor. Anyone who has been through Plum Gut knows it's reputation is not an old sailors tale. The wind was 30 mph against the tide and there were 5 to 6 foot waves. We were scrambling to survive when we came upon a guy trolling. Whether he crossed our bow or we went across his line, I don't know, but his line got cut in our prop. He turned around in the nastiest seas you can imagine to scream "I hope you sink you scumbag".
Point is there are a holes everywhere and at all times. Just like road rage, you need to get away from them asap and try not to let them ruin your day.

Blame it on the summer heat causing the Styrene to lift out of your Glass Reinforced Plastic boat hulls. You never see folks operating a well kept wooden boat causing these type issues.

May want to read rule 9 again... It s pretty clear.

(b) A vessel of less than 20 meters in length or a sailing vessel shall not impede the passage of a vessel that can safely navigate only within a narrow channel or fairway.

Happens a lot here in the channel we use in and out of the marina. It s about 100' wide in some areas and the water outside the channel is between 1 to 4' MLW yet small boats cut across regardless of what is in th channel. Almost every time I sound 5 blasts when some guy is about to cross, or sail, right in front of me at best I get a surprised look. Clearly ignorance of the colregs is bliss.
 
Most days, I wish I had a paintball gun on board.

RWS, I so agree with you, lol. BTW, my kids would NEVER allow me to purchase a hailer. They are afraid of what I might yell, at times.

Now, at my age I try to not get upset with anyone anymore. I enjoy being on the water and chalk up stupid behavior for what it is - stupid/ignorant people behaving stupidly.
 
Much better weekend this weekend. I decided I'm going to mount an Israeli flag on my bow in support of my people
