These screws have an even coat of tarnish, not bad in itself. Is that some soft wood remaining between threads or metal corrosion? If it's wood, that's a sign for concern. Did any of these screws spin freely? Was there tight resistance as you backed them out? Backing them out by hand tells you a lot. Hard to tell from the photo, but are the thread edges still sharp?
I looked at them and it looks like dirt in the threads from the ground where the boat is sitting it was A bit muddy from the thaw,it could also be wood from the plug. I used 2 of them as A cork screw once I drilled the wood plug to pull it out, they were Kind of A bitch to get out tight all the way out, my arms were shot after only pulling those and I stripped out 2. I need to get my easy out on it when I go back up on the 21st. I also noticed they are #10 screws didn't Pacemaker use #8's for those planks? Oh and yes they are still kinda sharp too why?
I'm thinking she did pulled more from other places when we went up in March we were up there for A week and went over her with A fine tooth comb got some more pix but here is what else I have found,,,I have been up to the boat now 3 times, first time for 4 days, second for 4, and the most recent for 5, the first two was just me and the boys checking out things and looking at what needs to be done and caulking some of the ports in the staterooms that were clearly leaking and general clean up, unfortunately the weather wasn't cooperating so we just pulled some screws found that she has been refastened recently, fresh paint and caulk from the keel to the gunnels, some spots need to be re-caulked and I want to repaint the bottom but nothing really to speak of so far,, AND no cracked ribs, all good news so far. I just need to re-fasten the rim log and the first 3 ribs forward of it where the previous owner screwed up and tried to splash her too quick, when they put her in she filled up too fast because he never pre-swelled her,,,the idiot, then when they got nervous about the fact she might sink, pulled her out again and went too fast with that too and the bottom planks separated from the rim log about by about 2 or 3 inches where the water poured out, the planks did return right back where they belong but now there is work to be done there. and then comes the last trip I took up there with the wife,,,we got there and the skies were cloudy and threatening rain and very warm weather, PERFECT this is what I was wanting the first two trips but never got. The marina owner said too bad you weren't here last week it was 60 and beautiful all week with no rain. I told him I wanted the rain I wanted I day of driving hard rain so I can physically see everything that was leaking so I knew where to start. And well here we go,,,, I got the rain I had been hoping for and let the madness begin, I found I have to totally rebuild both the port and starboard salon windows they are leaking like A siv and the weep holes were clogged and I cleared them out with A straw but the damage was done, should take me like 4 hours that's easy, port side of pilot house forward corner rotten, port window needs to be rebuilt, starboard side same place same thing, rotten, another 2 hours only need to replace the forward 4 feet the rest is protected by the over hangs, port side vent in the forward stateroom leaks needs to be re bedded, someone pointed out in the pictures there were A few spots on the hull to look at, (see previous pix for reference) got that looked at it found rot to fix there, trim piece on the top starboard corner of transom missing, aft head seawater intake and discharge valves need to be replaced, aft corner of hard top port side rot there too about 3 inches each direction.
the boys and I will be going up in April for 4 days to take care of the leaking spots bottom paint caulk and anything else we can find there lurking in the shadows and some other stuff I am sure I forgot to mention,,, it will be 4 days of crazy A** busting work..... MAN I LOVE THIS STUFF!!! LET THE MADNESS BEGIN !!! and now the pictures for your viewing pleasure...

Jimmy, I've got #8 silicon bronze for the planking on our boat. It's a 26' boat. The plank size and hull type determines the fastener size. I asked about sharpness of the screw threads because the thin metal on the edges is the first to corrode away.
Looks like you are in for a fun and busy spring. Leaky windows, ports and hatches can do a lot a damage on a wooden boat. I had to disassemble and rebuild every last one of them. Since I went to all of the trouble anyway I replaced the glass. It was amazing how much better the new glass looked compared to the 40+ year-old stuff.

Yeah I am on the Pace Maker owners forum too ( www.pacemakerboatowners.org ) and there is A wealth of info there too very knowledgeable people and they all own A Pace you can ask anything and they all seem to had the been there done that knowledge because they have,,, their all leak and they have fixed it, the problem seems to be from the 1/4 inch plate glass they used was so heavy and the design was bad to begin with one guy rebuilt his and replaced the aluminum tracks with nylon ones and the glass with smoked plexi but before he put the tracks in he glassed the channel they sit in and instead of the weep holes he slotted across the bottom with A router then sealed the slot with epoxy he said the windows slide very easily with one hand and the rain water that gets into the track area comes out faster then it comes in. I'm going that route when I do mine I like his idea there,,, and I happen to be sitting on 2 sheets of 1/4 inch smoked plexi that fell off A truck about 5 years ago I never threw it out because I always said if I throw it out I'll need it well here we go I had to buy A boat to use it on...LOL

Well ya'll here's A summery breakdown of events that went on throughout the last week...We got there on last Thursday evening around 5 ish and started getting ready to get her moved down closer to the water so we could pump out of the lake and into the bilge,,,, marina guys were running around doing their thing I was "in line" to be moved on Friday morning....then Saturday,,,,then SUNDay,,,,,,Then MONDAY I FRIGGIN LOST IT ON THE MARINA OWNER AND TOLD HIM I HAD HIS 2010 DOCKAGE FEES IN FULL AND IN CASH BUT HE WASN'T GOING TO SEE A DIME OF IT UNTIL I SAW SOME ACTION !!! THEN he promised he would move me personally on Tuesday morning,,, First thing Tuesday morning HERE HE IS TO MOVE ME!!! YAY!! BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE !!! He got in an argument the night before with the head marina guy who wanted to move me first thing Friday but was told NOT to do anything till he gave the say so and when he left he took the keys to the lift truck home with him!!!! So here we still wait so in A blind faith hail Mary he got me A pump with A long hose and we started wetting her right where she sat in the parking lot next to the building. As we went on this way tor A day and GOT NOWHERE I went out and rented A 2 1/2 inch gas pump and 300 feet of line from home depot we really gotter rippin.. BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE !!! Then what do you know the marina owner comes to me and says I got 8 inches of water in on my shop floor we gotta stop and move you.... an what do you know we got moved right where we were supposed to be moved first thing on Friday morning but now it is Thursday got the pump going right away and let her go till we had to leave so A neighbor to the marina Clark who loves her said he would keep an eye on her till I go back up on Thursday or Friday He has had 3 pacemakers and knows what she needs and what to look for... And here I am now back at home with my baby still on jacks in N.Y. Oh and as for the dockage fees I gave him 1/2 and told him he would see the other 1/2 when I saw her floating so as to avoid any future confusion of who the "customer,(BOSS)" is. And I will be updating more pictures in the PHOTO section for anyone who wants to see.
got A lot of loose paint scraped off kind of looks like crap now but I wanted to scrape anything that would go in the water if I waited, got most of the caulking done transom scraped sanded and first coat of paint on it now I am in the process of building one piece Mahogany window frames for around the transom windows and from there I want to go from window to window one at A time and where the cabin sides meet the windshields and replace all the metal trim on the boat with mahogany I think that will look better then the aluminum from the factory. More pictures to follow as I move forward.

Going back up on Friday gonna be A 2 man crew but I'm not scared I was hoping for 3 but the holiday has be beat and I got the marina help, talked to Clark "the Neighbor" again last night water is just about up to the floor boards in the forward cabin looking good he says, he thinks I got 1 or 2 seems that arent gonna close up for me right now to slick seam on the port side. I figured that I might have A few on that side, that is the side the sun hits, the stbd side never got sun where she was sitting the rest is tight and dry. He says Friday or Saturday she will be ready.
Well Y'all A lot has happened since I was on last. We put her in after we got all that water out of the bilge and she didnt even try to float. I had A 1 1/2 inch sump pump backing up each on board bilge pump and A 2 1/2 inch gas pump on the deck with the hard sleeve through the escape hatch in my aft cabin and still had 2 ft of water in my aft cabin that went all the way up to the bottom step going up to the salon. After 2 days I called it A loss in round one. We pulled her out slow and found the aft bilge pump (that I did test and it did work) was in fact wired backwards causing it to run backwards somehow, I would like to talk to the idiot that wired that up. Here are some pictures of that fiasco.
Then I went to one of the other forums I am on and was told that after sitting on the hard for 4 years drying out and going back in on A trailer there was only ONE way to do it,,,, GREASE, old school water pump grease. pack the seams like your packing A wheel bearing with A wide spackle knife. I was assured this was the way to go and was told that it would take A 5 gallon pail worth to do A hull of my size and some effort and time. After locating this stuff I went to work putting it in the seams, and "some" was seriously an under statement it took me and A friend 2 yes I said 2 days to get this task finished and when I was done I couldnt feel my arms or even lift them for that matter but we got it done. I told the marina I wanted to go in the following week end which was the weekend before the fourth of July. Here are some more pictures just for your viewing enjoyment.
Finally she went in at about 3 pm, we got some water but not much I had A 3 inch gas pump and 2 1 1/2 inch sump pumps in my aft cabin that I never needed, A 1 1/2 inch sump backing up the forward bilge pump that kicked on and off till it shut itself off at about 7 that night for the last time and the on board pumps took over so I pulled out all the pumps the next morning. the aft pump only kicked on the first night once or twice but then shout back off just as quick as it came on, the primary forward pump was kicking on like every 15 to 20 min for about 30 seconds then kicking back off. The next morning we got to getting on the tune up cap rotor points etc then fired her up for the first time and she purred like A kitten. Here are some more pictures.
Later that morning We fired her up let her warm up and took her to the slip where she has been bobbing proudly in the marina ever since. Too bad here we are in fall and next weekend we gas her up for the last time this year and take her on her 9 mile trip to the next marina where they have A sling and where she was for 30 years before she came to the marina where we are now and we will be hauling out for the winter,, bummer. here are some more pictures, I will also have more from the trip and haul out.
Well Y'all were heading back up on Wednesday night to move her over to the marina where we will be wintering on Thursday or Friday where they will be hauling her out for the winter and doing their magic sometime next week, I dont know if they will haul her out before I leave or not so I don't know if I will be there for haul out or not to take pictures. I don't know if I want to be there or not, it breaks my heart to think of hauling her out after she had so little time back in the water where she really belongs after being out for so long sitting on the hard, it just doesn't seem to be fair to her.

No, I am not A writer that would be the wife I cant write to save my life. Before I bought this boat the extent of my boat knowledge was my first boat A 14'Aluminum Starcraft that my wife bought me for my birthday,then complained it was too small, my second was A 16' fiberglass Bayliner trophy bass boat I had for only A short time. She saw that one and said she wasn't even going to waste her time with that one and never even got into it. THEN,, I sold that to put the down payment on this one, my 3rd and final boat,,I think, but then again maybe not.. she hit her head pretty good the first time we stayed on it as she was coming up from the head on the over head grab rail and told me we need A bigger boat, but I calmed her down and she came to her census. as for anything else I am A cabinet maker back out of retirement and as far as boat construction knowledge all I know is what I got from the guys here and the other 2 forums I am on, that is it the rest I am figuring out as I go,but all in all I do know more about my boat then anyone I know at the marina I am at. which makes me feel good at the end of the day.
