Your last command at sea was when, George?

???????????????????

You're the one who commented "The stupidity of the forces and chain of command in this instance is well known."

In order to make that comment, you had to have been in the position at some time in your life.

For example, at the change of command of my last ship, the CO was giving accolades to his crew. When he recognized the XO, he told the battle group commander (one star) that the XO was a credit to the Surface Warfare Community, the US Navy and was ready for command immediately.

As the ship's Supply Officer I certainly could not make that statement. I was never an officer in command.

The same would be true of me disparaging your accomplishments as an (.....).<--- (fill in career here) if I was not in the same field.

If one really wants to take it down to the gnats arse regarding your statement, when were you a task force commander?

Does that make it more clear?

If this sounds like I take it personally, I do. Those very same people you call stupid protect your right to call them stupid.

That doesn't make them any less human and mistake proof. People, no matter their job or stature F up.

$h!t happens to the best of us. In most cases it's like falling dominos.

And based on what we have been told that is what it sounds like happened here. A series of preventable errors that in hind sight could have been prevented.

As with most F ups it should be a learning experience. But unfortunately and as usual, the low people on the totem pole got the harshest part of the lesson.
