Buff Magic / Polish Pro help

after much research, I'm convinced this is what we need to do in order to get the shine back on our boat - we do have some oxidation, the gelcoat is no longer "off-white", it's all white.

Questions:

1 - assume wash first? suggestions for product?

2 - exactly what kind of buffer do we need to apply these products with? and what to use on smaller areas?

3 - okay to use these two products on the non-skid areas?
 
So is it Mike who is convinced or Jen?!! Good decision though regardless...Mother's Day is coming,wonder where Mike will be shopping for her gift :)

Wash first with Dawn dish detergent, it will take away all loose dirt and wax. Get yourself a Mikita or Hitachi sander/polisher and an assortment of wool or foam pads. Or you can try using a Porter-Cable 7424 D.A., but your results probably won't be quite as good.

If you have the gritty surface non-skid you can use the Pro-polish, apply with a small applicator. If you have the diamond plate non-skid I wouldn't advise using this product on it.
 
IF you follow Mike's directions in the first post on theis forum, you'll be fine.
 
The Buff Magic works fantastic...I use it on my boat, and, at 20 years old, it shines like new
 
They've sold a lot of Buff Magic and Pro Polish off of this forum!
 
Jonathan - now's your time to come clean (pun intended). You were very convincing in the other thread. Ocean Bio Tech (OBCI) owns Starbright products. It's up since you've recommended............hmmm.
 
I use the collinite cleaner then wax,can you use the pro polish after the hull cleaner?,I don't think I need to use the buff magic as the gelcoat is in good condition.
 
I stopped using wax a few years ago for a few reasons.

I have a nice go-fast many years ago that had a white gel cote dashboard. I keep the boat immaculate. Waxing all the time.

The boat manufacturer put a metal plate on the white dashboard saying the boat was custom built for me. When I sold the boat I removed the plate. Whoa, white gelcote underneath the plate, yellowing gelcote everywhere else.

When I brought my 48 up to NJ, I used wax on the flybridge, Meguires Flagship. As the year went on, I noticed that I must have missed some spots up on the top of the bridge near the enclosure. I knew this because the entire area where I waxed was holding onto the dirt, wasn't really coming off when I washed the boat, except for the areas I missed. They stayed nice and clean and didn't get that dirty tint to them like the rest of the bridge.

I stick with polish and sealers now, no more wax. Last year I polished the 48 with Pro Polish and didn't have the problem like I did the prior year.

The boat is still glossy and cleans up much better than before.
 
If it ever gets warm, I might get to try all that stuff you MADE ME BUY, Johnathon.

If the gelcoat is in good shape is it necessary to use the buff magic, or just a good hull cleaner and then use the Pro Polish?.

The Pro Polish does a great job cleaning. Try it first before you go to the cleaner wax. You have a new boat, so I would just use the Pro Polish.
 
Funny, I was going to post a question about Buff Magic and Pro Polish. I bought a can of Buff Magic yesterday to use on my 1999 SeaRay. It stays under cover, but still has some oxidation on the topsides. I've always used 3m Waxes with good results, but the Yacht Bright products seem to be making a name for themselves. Still have a whole bottle of 3m wax (not cleaner wax) that I will use up then switch to Pro Polish...unless one of you convinces me Pro Polish is good enough to throw out a bottle of 3m Wax.
 
Experiment! Try using the 3M wax on one side, and Pro polish on the other, and let us know.
 
Somehow I KNEW that was going to be the answer...good idea I think I'll give it a try.
 
USed the Buff mMagic on the hull today. Pretty impressive Johnathon. Tomorrow I get to use the Pro Polish. Thanks.
 
I kinda knew you would come back with those results Greg.

The finished product is very rewarding.
 
Fi9nished the hull below the rub rail today with Pro Polish. I've had some great results with Maguires Flagship in past years. I don't think my hull has ever looked as good as it does today after using the Pro Polish. Thanks again Johnathan.
