HM

Mike-How about the other docks besides the wave dock that were lost?

Judy-I'm sure you will get lots of different responses to that question from hating Wayne, to the thought that the water was actually getting lower to the general condition of the marina etc. I for one was at SPBM for years and if I had to leave Haverstraw, I would go back there. I also think that Haverstraw had a bad reputation for not being the warmest marina in the world and that's not true at all. Now that I'm here I would say that many others dont know what they are missing. It clearly is a resort style marina with way more positives then negatives.

Yea, I heard that "snooty people" line a lot....only experienced it once in 10 years. It's not snooty at all! As a matter of fact I met some people I knew from my time on Red dock Saturday. They winter at PB. And it was so much fun talking about the "old days". Red dock was SO much fun!! I heard those "snotty" remarks back when Marylou was still there. LOL....can you imagine? There was never a person so warm & inviting!!

The "snooty people" were farther out green dock amongst the blow boaters. :D

OMG no Pete!! I was a Social Butterfly. Monica even left me there once because she was tired of waiting for me having to stop & talk to everyone! LOL

Hey the couple I spoke with Saturday told me to tell you hello! It was Diane and.....forgot. But remember them from Red dock. Jeez, that was a fun year!!

Diane & Marty? They keep their boat at PB for the winter. I know that had some damage from Sandy.

Judy,
My family and I made the decision last June to move to HM primarily for the water required for our boat. Two other contributing factors would be the marina being in disrepair and health concerns regarding the pool and the lack of proper chemical maintenance.

We enjoyed our time at SPBM for most of the 15 years and dealt with the low tide water issues for the past 5 years with our new boat. It was now time to move on.

Moving to HM was the best decision, as it is the same type of marina we stay at when out vacationing at Montauk (MYC), Block Island (Champlains), Martha's Vineyard, Shelter Island, Baltimore, NJ etc....

This is what we pay for and this is what we expect. It's like being on vacation every weekend......with ice cream and a cherry on top!

My introduction to boating was at Haverstraw Marina back in about 79' at age 16 I worked there for one summer. I have always been happy there, for me it started as an issue of price when I bought my last boat I simply couldn't afford to dock at HM over time I made some good friends and it would have been hard to leave them. I started looking to leave when I had a few issues I won't go into the details but others made it clear they would come if I left so it made the decision easy, we left as a group. I have been very happy and haven't had a single regret as I'm sure the now comers will and already feel. I'm not looking to knock other marinas I'm understand why everyone enjoys where they are and why they want to stay whatever the reason it doesn't need to be justified! I just find it funny how so many feel the need to knock other marinas I'm for one hope everyone is happy where they are I don't want everyone running to Haverstraw they may decide to raise their prices and that wouldn't be good! (OK for the record this is a joke!!!!!) I know someone will read this and decide I'm self serving and bash me for this it's happened before.

Well Dave I for one would never knock Haverstraw. Some of my best boating times were spent there. My reason for leaving as I've said many times is just the enormity of it. And I'm an avid hiker lol. I just prefer to do my hiking in the fall...in Harriman or Pennsylvania. Not so much going to and from my boat!! But I do miss my Green 119 and keeping my out drives down!! But I love SS3rb2@gr5tPB too and right now that just works better for me. Hell, hopefully within the next few years I'll be living down the shore and my boat will be sitting at my own dock in my own backyard!!! :).

I agree, Bob. We were at SPBM for ten years or so and it was very good to us. When Wayne bought it and started making some improvements, it was even more reason to stick around and deal with the shallow water issues. That being said, the lack of interest on the part of management, the ever-increasing disrepair and the overall safety issues during the past 2-3 years helped us make the decision that it was time to move on. And as many of you know, my contract at HM was signed well before Sandy was even on the weather forecasters' minds. I have no reason to bash SPBM and wish everyone who remains there all the best and hope that one day it may get back to how it was. The move is not for everyone and I understand and deeply respect each of their decisions. As for me, I've been nothing but impressed at HM and hope the remainder of the season does not change that impression. Lot of great people, top-notch facilities and, more importantly, a responsive management staff that has treated us wonderfully every time we stepped foot in their office.

Judy - I believe we are close neighbors on Filors so please be sure to come by over the weekend to say hi when we are at the marina. Blue 132.

Dave, I guess you have not seen all the winter storage boats that come to us from other marinas to include Haverstraw that have been launched and moved on to there home marinas. PBM started putting boats in several weeks before any of the other marinas and that was with the damage we had. If you look back you will see how early I was launched. I give Mike and Ginny a hell of a lot of credit for being where they are considering the damage that occurred. Problem with Haverstraw is it a business marina only. They are in it for the money and that's it! The old staff is long gone but even they had to answer to the money boss. PBM is a true family marina. One question I would ask is how many of you donated your time to get the marina back on its feet right after the storm. I don't know if you saw PBMs web site but they had a heck of a turn out right after the storm to get there office open in one week. There was such a turn out that the members made me proud. And the members who could not work with us made sure we were well feed. We had private boats that were taken home brought back and launched to help with the recovery. I don't remember hearing or seeing anything like that in Haverstraw. Im not knocking it but I prefer a marina that sticks by its members and does not nick el and dime you. And yes I have been in Haverstraw and can tell you how there policies screwed me out of my slip fees due to paying early and then making the mistake of buying a new boat that would not fit in the slip. Lets talk about that no refund policy they had! Oh before I forget a lot of those boats on land are waiting on insurance so they can be repaired.

Thanks Anchor Management for those comments. My sentiments exactly. SPBM was repaired quicker because Wayne is quicker on the draw than the competition. I have heard people complain about the marina for years and I wondered "why are you still here. All you do is whine". They now have about 150 slips, all with electric and water. If anyone needs a slip because their marina doesn't have any yet come on over. We got them here. We'll see how many are filled by the 4th of july. Many boats around here got wrecked or damaged and aren't going in. The marina business is slow all over. Read the threads by the guys at the Jersey shore. The marinas are mostly empty a week before the first big weekend. Checking the depth of the channel and inside the marina with my depth finder it is the same as before the storm. Enjoy your weekend. Let's hope for good weather.

Agree with all that was said. I think the management at PBM's (both) are super people and deserve to be happy and prosperous with their businesses. Having said that, I don't understand why the issue of HM being a "business" marina. What is wrong with that? They are courteous and responsive and seem to have a heck of a lot of money to invest in their business which gives their customers more then most others can. That's a positive in my book. They obviously did not need their customers to help them get the place back in order as they did a super job on their own. Their prices and what they charge you for are clearly identified so you come in with your eyes wide open. (Cant speak to your issue Butch) For me, paying a little extra is worth it as I feel I'm getting my monies worth and then some.

The answer is simple. My marina is better then your marina. So there.

Btw, Dave, you forgot to mention Mike's complaint about wood being in the parking lot when he came over for dinner. Hope they didn't take up too many of he 750 spots.

How many of those 750 parking spaces are open on weekend nights when you have boaters, and mobs at the water club? I know when I pull up to PBM, I can see my boat, and 99% of the time, I park in the front row, but sometimes, I have to walk an extra 10' when the front row is full.

Will you HM guys be able to get out for Memorial Day? I know last year Dave spent most of the summer at the dock - I don't think he had enough water to get out...[:-eyebrows]

Bob, I will be sure to stop by. I'm no stranger at HM & and will be getting together with some blow boater friends to do some sailing as well. Love those Wed. evening races!!

I am truly happy everyone is happy where they are right now and for finding whatever it is we all want in a marina. In the same sense It is sad whatever has happened at SPBM. Years back in the Gene days I wintered there. In the spring when everyone was out and about I would hang out with them while prepping my boat and believe me, I took my time to stay as long as I could. I don't think I ever saw a happier more contented bunch of boaters!! They...to a member...LOVED..their marina!!! And it was infectious to the point that I hated to leave. I was in Haverstraw at the time and could not for the life of me understand how they could be happy in such shallow water. They would laugh and tell me " well we just have a crab boil and wait for the tide to come in" lol...and they really did!! What great Karma over there.

Whatever the hell happened is so terribly sad.

Hogan, The question is will you be able to get your boat out? How come we haven't seen you out in the water yet?

We were in Boston last weekend, were you out? The weekend before we were doing "mother's day" stuff. Before that, the weather sucked.

Oh, and by the way, PBM hired divers to come in and float the piece of wave dock that was in our fairway.

I'll be on the boat starting Thursday night, we'll be out, but probably not till after the party PBM is throwing for their slipholder to thank them for their patience and support:

PennyBridge Marina Memorial Day Mimosas!

11:30 - 2:00 Saturday May 25th

Mimosas, Bloody Mary's, soda and light snacks on the beach!

When is HM doing throwing a party on their beach?

Everyday is a party at HM. You don't need divers over there, you need walkers. See you in the pond.
