My marina meters each slip. On the monthly statement it is billed as "Special Services".
I am told it is because the owner charges a multiple of what the untility company charges him. The marina owns the meters.

My bill for November was $28.00, nothing running except the batt charger.

That's about what my bill was this summer at another marina with the ice maker & Refer 24-7, and the A/C every weekend (when we weren't out on the water) I believe it was 8 Cents per Kw there.

What is your marina's policy ?

Ohio River, Southern In.

Wow, 8c perKW. Sign me up. In the BVI we pay up to 65c per KW.

Our marina on Lake Champlain charges by the season--$160.00.

While we have individual meters at my dock, we are not charged separately for electric. Just got next years slip contract - $125 per foot, which includes water & electric.

here they charge by the service for the season. $29 per amp in winter or approx $900 for the six months for a 30 amp outlet.

Youse guys mean kilowatt-hours, kWh. Eight cents is very low but common when you are close to hydroelectric power like Niagara or Boulder Dam. We pay $0.15 near Albany and about $0.18 in northern NJ.

Its up to when burning a medium light bulb for a day is about what I got for an allowance as a kid.

What is the multiplier that your marina uses?

In NY we would have to be registered as a public utility to own the meters and charge "customers".

We got hammered over $110 per month and it wasn't even a hot summer. My house electric bill was not that high and my office, where we have computers and servers running 24/7 was only slightly higher.

Interesting. In VA it is illegal to resell electricity at a profit. You can charge a meter reading fee.

Mine is between 8 and 9 cents per kilowatt hour.

Champlins charges transients $20/day per 30 amp cord!

We pay an extra charge per AC unit, otherwise electric is included in slip price.

I believe in Indiana it is also illegal to resell electric if you are not a utility.
As rbmitchell said, cheap rates when you are close to the the hydroelectric plant (we were).

The marina I am currently at is $10 / Ft covered, including water. Which I think is very reasonable. So, since they don't charge for electric. . . ahem, but rather, for "special services" they make up some of the $$ difference in electric, I mean "sp svcs".

I bought my slip, and belong to a condo association, the fee is $2.00 per foot of slip length. This money is pooled and contributes % to repairs, maintenance, dredging etc of the marina.

So my monthly amount is $80.00 plus electric.

Mind you this is not a marina with a swimming pool, exercise room and jacuzzi. It's the only game in town (one other but no covered slips).

We don't even have restroom facilities that can be reached by foot. They are at the gas dock, and it is not attached to the docks. There are porta potties up in the parking lot. The boat club pays for them. And the pump out won't pump anything if it has to pull more than a couple of feet above tank level.

Most of us pump out at the downstream marina. No charge, so most of us (the over 25' boaters) buy our gas and Ice there. Plus they are friendly people.

Just trying to put this place in perspective.

Did I get off the subject or what ?

Metered electricity at our marina. Last month was 30 KWH and $4 plus a little change. Winter is my highest electricity bill and I can run up to 60 KWH a month. I'm running a smart charger and a small reefer on top of the dock box 24/7. During the winter additional cost comes from using a heater if I'm at the marina and about 100W worth of dehumidifiers.

No meter, no electricity charge unless you are a live-aboard and then you get charged an extra $30/month

I just got the forms for next seasons slip.
$.25 per KWH

Last winter it was $.23 per KWH at my winter marina. I'm afraid to see what this years rate is!

John
do you remember what the monthly cost was with the A/C’s cranking etc…

I pay $450 for April 1st through Dec 1st. I have (2) 30amp services. If anyone has seen or been on my boat I think it is a steal. We practically live at the marina 4 to 5 days a week. We have 2 16,000BTU AC units, one 15,000 unit topside under the hardtop and 2 electric heaters that draw gobs of power. I obviously need to power manage the systems but we are quite comfortable. I run my business from the boat while we are there. The Generator will run everything with no power management when we are on the hook or cruising.

You think the rates are high now wait for Cap-N-Trade to pass. You haven't seen anything yet.
