Hurricane Sandy

I figured that was why Haverstraw is not taking anyone. We are right behind the earth/rock surrounding, and are tied securely. I'll take down the canvas and leave the mooring cover on. The pilings are much higher than at PBM, at high tide, they are still over 10" above the waterline.

I feel much more secure here, there is not much else I can do, so we'll leave this afternoon and hope for the best.

The folks here are great and have been very accomodating.

"they are still over 10" above the waterline"

10" doesn't sound like enough 10' would be much better!

Good luck to everyone both on land in in water may we all bare the storm well and without damage.

Anyone know where I can buy a generator none available anywhere.

Big BOO to Haverstraw then. Last year they were full of transients looking for shelter from the storm. Seemed the right thing to do. I would have thought that this year there would be more since some have taken their boat out for the winter and there's more room.

BOOO!

Here is the latest forcast:

We will keep a good thought for all of you.

Dave, it was more like 12'. We turned her around into the wind, added extra lines and came home. We'll see what the next couple of days brings.

The people at MYC could not be nicer. They took in about 20 boats from PBM.

Penny Bridge webcam shows a couple of boats still in - on the side closest to Panco no less! Yikes hate to see how they fair after the storm. It looked like high tide at low, judging from the height of the pilings. Good move to move to MYC to ride it out.

Just saw the high tide is predicted to be 8' above normal... I think being in the water is better than being on land...

Wow 8+' that's going to get interesting! MYC is a well protected marina I think you made a good choice. I'm not concerned being on land. I have been a shored that boats can't sink on land:) There would have to be significantly more then 8' to be an issue my stands my get wet but I don't believe there could be enough water to float the boat off my stands.

Dave, if it's an 8' surge at high tide, you'll be back on the river!

Can someone stop by and throw an extra line on my boat, I'm busy with some chores around the house.

OK just kidding.

I'm out but not without some drama. Many people are riding it out and I predict a few will be lost. There are a couple of boats that I saw the owner throw an extra line on and leave. I'm just glad to be out. Anyone looking for a new Jetski, just keep an eye on the river. I saw a few that will be floating by soon.

Stay safe everyone.

I would call up where you are store at and tell them it needs removed or you and your insurance company will hold them liable for any resulting damages.

All started by the boat from Jersey City. Nice to be surrounded by people I know :)

Can't believe haverstraw not to take boats in when it is a state of emergency. Have no res

Guys, as Rommer will attest, and I know, if this surge is as bad as it looks, plan on not being able to get to your boat if you are not on it. Many folks came up to the Rondout for the last set of storms. They were not able to get on or off their boats for probably a day or so because the water impacted the ramps to the docks so significantly they could not be accessed.

If you are not going to be on your boat, make sure the lines have chaffe protection at both ends, and enough slack to handle the surge, but not so much they can flop around in the wind. It's a very tough call and why folks like Pascal will stick it out. Believe me down here in Stuart on the St Lucie River, I had to slide down the lines and jump to the dock to adjust them and I am 6'4". Our Marquipt stairs were useless because they were falling in between the dock and boat. We were too high and too far away from the boat for them to be useful. Deb did not get off the boat for 5 days.

Once this gig gets going, don't plan on being able to access your boat.

Been there done that, and it sucks. Be ready. Hopefully it isn't this bad but this one has too much going into shutting down NYC.
