Missing BoaterEd

This forum has not only given me valuable information over the years I've been a paying member, but I've made some very good friends. I'm referring to people I have met in person and stay in touch with. There is no other web forum I visit that has the quality of people I've interacted with here. Heck. Les and I have "butted heads" a few times, but I respect the heck out of him. This is his forum and he can run it as he likes.

People from this forum I've met in person:

BillyIII - Many cell phone conversations, e-mails and heck, I just bought a boat from him!
Pascal - I owe you a bottle of wine from the time you shared one on the back of your boat with us.
rbenton - Bob, it was great meeting you in Palm Beach. One of these days we'll be back in your area.
Vic Willman - We haven't heard from you in a while, but you're a top personal in my book. Thanks for all the help.
Blake - As I e-mailed you before, the next time we trailer our boat to FL we'll stop by for a visit. Thank you so much for helping us out last year when our truck broke down.
jmeirhofer - John, I now have your washer-dryer. It would have been much easier to have taken possession of it when our boats were next to each other!
Boatbum - Dan, we interact so much I forgot I met you on BE!

I'm missing a few others that I've lost touch with, and I apologize to you. To me this forum is worth the meager fee I pay each year.
 
I think that is the whole point Kurt. Just what you spoke to is dying out. Or at the very least no longer growing.

This has been kicked around quite a bit. There are many social media sites now, like Twitter, FB, and etc.. Without question they have consumed quite a bit of the traffic and for a number of reasons.
While they are not necessarily topic related, they consume the energy and time on the net.

I will say, that this site is best in that it does not include the obtrusive gifs, personal photos, adds, and links that permeate other sites.

Now if people could only remember who they have met <grinning>.
 
If you want to see a REALLY dead boating website, go look at BoatUS. If it weren't for Audrey II, there would be no posts there at all.

I have no idea what you're talking about (the edit button proves it!). Of course nobody else I've met on this site -made- me boat to the Bahamas to meet them :-)
 
Two of my best friends I have met on this site. Psalzer who it turned out I interacted with at my workplace frequently, just did not know it was him untiil he sent me a PM. BillD who is the smartest guy I know and the definition of a true Southerner.
 
Another depressing fact is at the bottom of the home page....look at the " active users " section... " members online ". Today if there are more then 8 RO's using the site at the same time... its ALOT. There was a time when there was 20-30+ members on at the same time. Same with the " contains new posts since last visit " flags. There was a time when you first get on...there would be 20+ new posts......today there was 3.
 
Y'all need to take Geebee's post with a grain of salt because everyone who knows me is aware I'm just a poor dumb old country boy who just happens to love saltwater, boats, and fishing. Besides that he only knows a couple doz. people. BTW-- As Louis L'Amour would say, GeeBee and Pete are the kind of friends one can Ride the River with.

Maybe the slowness on page loading has something to do with the lack of traffic.
 
I do miss the golden days of Boater Ed. It was / is the best "tempered" site with no arguing and name calling.

There are so many boating sites now, pretty much one for every make and type of boat, fishing, skiing, geographic area, etc. . Yes and some of the social media sites take up our time, I answer Trim Tab questions at our Facebook page.

Boater Ed was one of the very first sites I post on and it holds a special place. I do still check on it every few days.

Almost keeps me away for sure.
 
Ever notice that the guy's that complain how slow it is, don't have anchors.
Perhaps if you supported the site we could get some faster and better equipment!
