Gets even worse, will need to hire someone to winterize my boat :(

I got hurt on Labor Day weekend, need immediate surgery (Monday)

I ripped some tendons in my left leg, totally, f-d.
Was told I can't put any weight on my left leg for at least 5 to 6 weeks, then not sure what I heard after that. But was told, you may be ok next boating season.

What really sucks is I have to go under for this surgery, not sure if I will wake up. Asked the surgeon, if he could do a local, don't care about pain, told me no and to chill.

If I survive (in my my mind 50% chance) there aint no way I can be an invalid, for 6 weeks, I got a business to run and people to see!!!!!!!!!!

this sucks

Walter

PS
Tomorrow I have to go to a screening (test) to make sure I am qualified to have surgery

Walter, relax buddy... The survival for anesthesia is more like 99.9%. You'll be fine. Listen to your doctors and take care of yourself.

If anything happens, can I have your boat?

Walt like Mike says, and does your wife come with the boat?

Seriously chill out. You'll make it fine.

Gees Dan, you made a wife joke, Carver better never see this :)

Thanks Mike,
Your boat is better than mine IMHO, but yes, you can have it, negotiate that with Denise ;)

My grandfather was chief anestesiologist (spelling) at St Francis medical center, mother is an RN (yeah I missed the medical boat cause im a dumb ass)
Anyway, he retired and passed away long ago - but even then it wasnt that big a deal.
You'll be fine. Just had to put one of the dogs under (12 yo) shes 84, almost as old as you - and she was tearin after something in the back yard two days later and pulled some stitches. Old dogs are tough ;)

I'll come up and drive you around in your boat, when youre really done the other boys can winterize it!

Me too. I'll even help with clearing the beer out of the fridge :)

Seriously, just let me know when it's on the hard and I'm there.

Really sucks how that happened. I'm sure you will be fine.

Jeff

How it happened is a freak thing,Got to West Hampton the Thursday before Labor day, was on a friends boat after we tied up (not there more than 20 minutes), it was close to high tide so it was an easy step from his swim platform to the dock. I stepped of the boat, onto (couldn't see) onto the power cords across the dock, my foot rolled on the cords, and really not sure what happened then, thinking that I positioned myself not to fall back and then heard, rip, rip. The sound was like I just ripped my pants, but, half a second apart, knew i had a problem then. The pain was so intense, I could not breath. That scared me, I do very well with pain (married 25 years :) ), seriously though, I was a boxer in my younger years (not good, so took a ton of pain) as well as a brawler, did well at that. So pain, is not something that is a problem, never felt pain like this. I actual felt like a pu-ssy, to call an ambulance. I actually lost my breath with this pain, that was a first for me.

Had a great weekend (5 days) then came home.

Sorry to hear that Walter. Not sure what type of business you run, but I thought it was in the telecom field. I've been in telecom and IT for 25 years. If there is anything I can help you with while your healing let, me know. Also, stop being a worry wart about the anestisa - you'll be fine! Is it me, orwas this not a great season anyway. Just seemed like people were not using their boats as much. Maybe the economy is getting the best of many boaters. Good luck and get better soon. Next season is rightaround the corner. Sh-t, I just depressed myself! This 5 hour time difference is killing me!

While I haven't heard those sounds I have heard what an Achillies tendon sounds like when it snaps. Damn ugly. Good luck and I hope the surgery works out. There is nothing fun about going under the knife. Been there a few times.
Last time I had a great surgeon, who with his nurses, led me through the recovery with minimal pain and all it took was advil in between the other stuff to keep the swelling down.

I laid there on the table waiting and the anisthesiologist walked in and said good morning. How ya doin? I said ok. He says I'm going to give you a cocktail ok? I said sure, and make it a double because I don't want to know about any of this. He said he'd work on it. So there I was half out of it when the surgeon walks in. He says how ya doin. I said ok I think the other guy gave me a double and I ain't feeling anything. He says good because he was out late with the boys and he shows me a shaking hand and says I think I can get through this even tho they are shaking.
The last thing I remember was calling him a dirt bag and the whole O.R. busting out in hysterical laughter. The man fixed me up and saved my life.

Walt, sorry to hear about this. Im sure everything will go as planned and youll be up and running in no time. If you need anything, dont hesitate, youve got my cell and e-mail. If you need help with the boat, give me a shout.

Hang in there, youll feel like a million bucks soon enough!

Walter,
We can compare xrays after this. Rolled my ankle in a very odd way and heard popping. Drs can do amazing things...Had triple avulsion fractures in my left ankle. Amazing what they did. My figure skating career was over.
You'll be fine. Enjoy the meds for the first week.
Perry

Best of luck Walter. I'm sure you'll bounce back better than before.

John,
You have been through hell and back, think about you often. Sorry for not asking more, but I have followed your posts.

That stinks! But I'm sure that it will all work out for you. Here I was being a little bummed out because my season is ending a bit early because of a bad motor. That pales in comaprison to what you have going on.
I'd be glad to lend a hand with winterizing your boat.
