My season is over

Get yourself a metal coat hanger, you'll need it.
Glad you "made it".

Funny, I was thinking the same. A long one at that..

Walter, see you are a tuff SOB.

Congrats Walt. With all the offers to help with your boat, I am questioning whether this is a scam to get out of winterizing. Once the pain gets tolerable, please post pics of your cast, proving to us this is for real. Seriously, get better soon!

I have pics pre-surgery, but not posting without his ok.
I was there when it happened so I can vouch for it, it's legit.
They took him from Westhampton Beach marina by ambulance.
It was not a happy moment for any of us!

Glad you got past the surgery. I hope the recovery goes well.
My season is over as of today. My boat came out of the water this morning. The upside is that I power washed it without freezing my butt off and pulled the drives off and stored them.
I'll probably winteize it sometime next week if I get the time, and then do the fall clean up.
It will get at least one nice brand new motor in the early spring.
Luckily I have the smaller boat to get out on when I want. That one will probably stay in the water until after Thanksgiving.

Glad you're out of surgery. If you listen to the docotr and the therapists, you'll be as good as new before you know it. When I had each of my knees replaced at North Shore Glen Cove Hospital, we used to kid that they only hired cute female therapists because otherwise we would have killed the little bas....ds. Everything they made us do hirt, but it worked. My knees are fine. My back is a different story. Stay well and keep posting. Hy

Same condolences Walter & a speedy recovery, or more realistically, a patient one-time to relax for a bit and then get stronger. And have HOGAN motor your boat down here for the winter and you can use it whenever you like w/o having to winterize it!

Walter.....knew you'd be ok :) Now get through the therapy and back to boating!!! You're the best :)

Hey walter... I just went through the same exact thing. Had to have some relatively minor neck surgery and was freaking out about the anesthesia, right up until I got on the operating table. I mean totally freaking out with the same exact feelings as you.

Fast forward and the anesthesiologist told me to relax. He'd be giving me the same mix I drink on the docks over the summer. Next thing I knew, I was coming to in the recovery room. Perfect.

Trust your docs and let it go. You'll do just fine. Good luck and I/ we look forward to hearing from you after it is all done.

Yikes! You're out and done! Guess I was too busy under the anesthesia to pay attention to where things were for real! Congrats Walter. Thanks for the updates Dave. Get better soon Walter.

Good news Walter,,,,and NIX that coathanger idea. Being from the Ortho world, I have seen hangers broken off under casts, and you want to see some galvanic reactions between skin, sweat, and metal,,,it is wild. Itching comes from dampness, and a little cornstarch dumped in, and a hairdryer will be your best friend.
Take it easy, and look forward to the therapy.

Thanks everyone

Really appreciate your kind words and advise. Having a hard time dealing with the cast and my lack of mobility

Walter,
If you need lessons on crutch use...I'm your guy...

Hang in there and ELEVATE that leg. You will swell if you don't

Cast is a PIA and get's more uncomfortable as time goes on. I broke my leg a few years ago and had one on my leg for about 7 or 8 weeks. Towards the end I had to stop myself more than once from going in the garage and removing it.
Luckily it was my left leg and I could still drive.

Walter, I've been following this one and am also happy to see it went well. Give it time to heal. Patience!
Never had a cast on but have been through disk surgery and I paid attention to what the surgeon said about not overdoing it, and listened to the physical therapist, and, damn, they were right!
A couple of friends had the same surgery and tried to do too much, too soon, (hunting, golfing) and had to repeat the surgery. They've never been the same.
I'm surfing every chance I get, and doing hard work keeping up the property, etc., and glad I listened. No back problems.
